    TTR 125 Fuel leak

So, took Leeza's new bike out in the yard for a few minutes before doing an oil change, and fuel was pouring out the overflow tube. I dont remember it doing this when I bought the bike, we ran it for longer, and I'm sure I would've noticed a puddle this big. Literally not touched it since then. I pulled the carb and cleaned it out thinking it was a stuck float, but that all seemed fine. Put it back together and still POURING out. Any suggestions?

Oh and the bike doesnt even have to be running now. Just turn the petcock to ON and the fuel starts draining.

And if I run the bike with the petcock off not a drop comes out. I'm guessing something to do with the float?

Yup has to be the float... So check the needle and seat, something is not letting it close. DON'T Blow compressed air in through the line it will blow the seal out. Check the needle for varnish or damage to the tip.

The tip does deform. My TTR does that too. I just turn the petcock off when not using it. I don't have a leak when the motor is running. Just clean it up a bit. It may be just clogged up with shit. You should see the stuff that is in my float bowl if the bike has sat for a little while.

    Got it, thanks Duck.
Seems to have fixed itself after carb cleaning #2.

Dammit nope, was fine for a bit, then starting leaking again. Seemed fine when I was giving it throttle, and then when I let it idle, but then I shut the bike off, and 10 seconds later started leaking again.

Does the float move easy? Pin move easy? Check that the pin cuts off fuel with the carb apart.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

Yes. Yes. How do I do that? Pull the bottom off thecarb and turn on the gas and push the pin?

Bottom off carb, float in place, gas on. Raise the floats till it stops or you notice the tab over the needle is in danger of being bent out of position.

    Re: TTR 125 Fuel leak

Alright, Ill bump an old thread instead of starting a new one

Took the carb apart today, and replaced the needles and stuff. Did the old take one thing out, replace it with the new one. Everything seemed put back together ok, but when I put everything together and tried to start it just wont go. Doesnt seem like its getting gas. Starter is going like crazy, but just wont even attempt to kick over. Any idea where I should start?

    Re: TTR 125 Fuel leak

First the obvious... is the gas on? OK it is, open the drain on the bottom of the carb is gas coming out? NO, carb back off and check the needle/seat. YES, is it overflowing and flooding out the bike? Carb comes off and check needle and seat.

    Re: TTR 125 Fuel leak

Jeebus, Do you have the service manual? RTFM and set the carb/float to spec. You're not being specific enough with your info. Replaced needles and things tells us nothing. It's the float needle, spring and tab that you are concerned with. The rest of it need not be replaced are messed with.

Start over. What exactly did you replace? Did you set the float height, replace the float needle? when it's assembled does it feel like the float is free moving and spring loaded? carb upside down, push the float down gently, it should spring back up a bit...

By the service manual? or just by what was there before? Maybe just bring the carb to a shop and have them set it up. It's less than an hour's labor.

    Re: TTR 125 Fuel leak

Poor man's float level check: Put a clear hose on the carb drain on the bottom of the carb. OEM carbs should already have a hose here. Grab said hose (GENTLY!) and hold it up beside the carb so it forms a 'U'. Open the drain on the bottom of the carb by loosening the screw that's down there. Turn the gas on at the petcock. What should happen is gas will flow into the tube and rise to match the level inside the bowl. If you lower the hose a bit, the level will climb back up to stop at the same spot relative to the carb. This spot should match up with the float bowl seam. If the gas doesn't stop, or doesn't flow in the first place, you've got issues to chase.

    Re: TTR 125 Fuel leak

Ok, got it running, adjusted the pilot screw a little, and adjusted the float. Everything seems alright, but now I got another issue. When the bike is idling, and you twist the thottle the RPMs jump of course, but then take FOREVER to come back down. They just seem to hang up there. Its not a cable issue near as I can tell, any adjustments I should make?

    Hanging idle - lean
Drops like a rock, then burbles back to a clean idle - rich

The pilot screw is where you'll fix that.
