So I got ~700 miles on my R6 now. The dealer says they'll check for something like the valve seating or something? - in addition to the oil and chain but they can't get me in until like august 29th - and I wanna have the bike kosher for the august 26th track day (yeah I'm doing that - just noticed that thread too). Sooo, I'm gonna change the oil/filter, and check the chain adjust myself, but what else is there I should look at?
Just like you should for a track day. Change the oil and filter, chain tension, brakes, lights, every nut and bolt for tightness.

Right, but are there any other things relating to the engine settling in correctly? And is there really anything to this valve seat checking thing? I asked the service guy at Skycycle whether its something I should do before the major revs I'll be visiting on track day, and he said no... but thats coming from the same guy who told me that the whole low revs while breaking the bike in was bs in the first place.![]()
You should not need to check the valves on a modern sportbike until about 8000 miles. If you put the bike into a dealership for the 1st service I guarantee you that they will tell you they checked them, bill you for the time and say that no adjustments were neccessary. It's up to you wether you believe they checked them. I know people who work in motorcycle service departments and I know what I believe.
Change the oil and filter before the trackday and ride it like you stole it. It has 500 miles or more on it, right?
My bike NEVER goes to a dealership for service.

I like the sound of that. Thanks for the info derek!Originally posted by Degsy

FWIW, I've owned modern sportbikes bikes with as much as 40,000 plus miles on 'em, and they've never needed valve adjustments...
Never, and I mean NEVER trust a dealership's service dep't. I certainly wouldn't...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?

LOL. They aren't even gonna open your valve cover.....exact reason why not to trust this shop if this salami is telling you that bullshit. Spend $25 and buy a shop manual and start doing it yourself. Ask questions here and most will have an answer for you.

most definitely... something else funny is, they also mentioned synching the carbs. Ummmm. The R6 is fuel injected.![]()
You can still synch the throttle bodies.
Degs
Degs is right. But get that manual and do that stuff yourself. It's a good education. If you stay with riding you'll want to do it yourself eventually. Oil changes are the easiest and biggest money savers. A $25 task will run you double that (or more in the case of Harleys) at your dealership.

And I changed the oil/filter today, it looked brand new.
