new chain installed a month ago, and close to 300 miles on it already. would you hold off on cleaning yet, or is this something that should be done every 300 miles no matter how new the chain is?
did a search on here, and saw some other related threads.
looks like i just put it on the stand, WD-40 with a wire brush, then spray on chain wax (while the chain is warm).
anyone else have some input here?
Many use wd40 and I hear it works really well.
I remove the rear wheel, drop the chain into a paint tray of kerosene and clean the chain like that with a rag. I then put a tiny amount of chain oil on and take the bike for a spin. Once I have warmed the chain up, I spray a good amount of chain wax on and wipe off excess. Allow to dry and it won't fling off too bad.
Cleaning the chain and waxing it is essential. I use a soft plastic bristle brush with a little softscrub and a bucket of hot water. I also threw the chainguard in the trash. It makes cleaning much easier. Then I airblow it dry, warm up the chain and hit it with wax.

I bought some chain cleaner from a dealer, made by pj1 I think. Sparyed it on, let it sit several minutes wiped all the goop off with a rag, then lubed chain got it warm and fully lubed again
I go every 5, manual says every 6, I only have 2500 on my chain so I guess we will see how long it lasts
I just keep lubing it. Last one got about 20k on it. Who gives a crap if they can see my gold links or not.
Motard gets a wiping down usually once during the weekend.
KB
I lube mine by rubbing it on KB's greasy cankles.
