    Clutch not disengaging

    Bike is a BMW S1000XR. Went to move the bike around the garage and was having a hard time pushing it around. First thought the tires were flat or something but they're fine. So with the bike in 1st gear and clutch pulled in there is a lot of resistance at the wheel. Basically with the bike turned off and on the stand withrear wheel off the ground, 1st gear and clutch lever pulled all the way in, I could barely turn the wheel with all my strength. When in neutral the wheel turns freely. Also when I have the rear wheel in the air, with the engine running, 1st gear and clutch pulled in, I cold more easily turn the wheel. But it reverts back to the same behavior when I turn the bike off. Clutch lever free play is adjusted correctly.

    It did sit through the winter with oil that had about 3500 miles on them, but I've already changed to fresh oil.

    How do I fix this?

    That’s stiction for you. A bike in gear will always give you some resistance even with the clutch lever squeezed in.

    Put it in neutral.

    This is different. I usually roll the bike around in 1st gear and use the clutch action as a mean to slow the bike down.

    Now it barely rolls.

    Maybe the clutch plates are stuck together

    Yeah, my guess was some stickiness in the clutch stack.

    Maybe try some friction zone sort of letting out on the clutch to clean up the plates?

    Most of my bikes are like that with cold oil. Does it roll in neutral? Does it roll in 1st gear with clutch in when the oil is hot? If so, it’s probably fine.

    I have had this same thing happen in the past . Fiber and steel plates are stuck together . I find a steep enough hill, bump start it and just ride them free .

    I am having the EXACT same issue on my SV and have a thread going about it now (lots of good suggestions over there so far). Hopefully you get this figured out and it is as easy as rolling it down a hill! Keep us posted.

    I'm going with plates stuck together as said before. You can open the clutch pack and check but I would just go for a ride. A good jolt to the clutch pack and it usually fixes itself.

    It was an interesting ride on a kx65 when it happened that's for sure.

    little late but basically it unstuck itself when I rode it down the street.
