Continuing restoration of Ninja

I chose to convert to a 530 chain on my 600 ninja. I decided to paint the rims since I would have the back wheel off to install new sprocket. I used fine steel wool , then TSP (degreaser used prior to painting) , then Dupli-color chrome paint.

I am having a problem getting the counter sprocket off. I bought a 27mm socket and still no luck. Does anyone know if they use reverse threads ? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Uh why did you go with a 530 conversion?

I've used both a breaker bar and an impact gun while holding the rear brake to get the front sprocket nut off.

the threads should not be reversed. getting a front sprocket off is difficult, i normally use air tools and that works well but there are alot of methods out there. and ya, for future reference a 520 chain is lighter and is PLENTY strong for a 600, esp. an older one.

best way to take off the front sprocket would have been done before you took the old chain off. if you can put it back in on do it, then you can have someone press on the rear brake, that way the sprocket won't move while you try to break it free. I've also heard of putting putting a 2x4 in the wheel against the swingarm to get the same affect.

you can also put it in gear but just don't try to use too much force if its really stuck.

Looks good. MAybe I'll do something to my old Ninja this winter.

+1 on putting a 2x4 through the wheel. Comes off with little effort and zero damage to anything.

If you use a Air gun and just hit quick it comes right off..
