You'd prefer something with a higher moment of inertia?

um sure. I think I get what you're saying. It just seems weird to have a 200hp motor with plastic gears. I'm sure they're that super strong plastic and not just cheap tupperware type crap but still.

They're not using them in a high load scenario, so as long as the right plastic is chosen you get light weight with self lubricating and cheap mfg costs all in one shot. You'll note where load bearing is required they used metal gears.

So... plastic with some fiber tossed in for good measure...

I'm waiting for Duc to release a version of the Panigale mill made from Torlon. The current cases with floating cylinder sleeves is almost ideal already for conversion to Torlon... just imagine a Panigale that weighs even LESS.

I can't imagine the cost of Torlon cases. That shit is stupid expensive.

The torlon itself isn't bad, the primary cost for mfg is the initial mold designs, etc. Once you've got that down, bang'em out cheapie cheap. (This is why Ford hired a company to research a nearly all Torlon motor, mfg costs could be very cheap in volume... I'll have to see if I can find the article on those mills again, cool project with impressive results.)

Why? They operate the water pump and oil pump only, a load easily tackled by plastic gears. High strength ceramic would just add cost and weight, no need to over-engineer here.
