    F1 Code

Anyone know what the check engine light F1 code means? For a Gsxr 2005

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A400 Safari/6531.22.7)

That means you have an FI code. It means fuel injection code and the code can be for anything. The way to get the actual code number is to jumper two pins on the service plug behind the battery and the code will display on the instrument cluster.

Well snowed in and no school so why not learn some more stuff and make a tut? I learned how to do this on another site but figured I would make my own little tutorial with my own step-by-step and pics!

This is what the dealer uses to configure and troubleshoot what is wrong with your bike (ECU wise). Such as sensor or circuit malfunctions mainly.
They hook something up to the bike and it makes the bike put a special code up right under the speedometer. Then they take this code, refer to the list, see whats wrong, tell you, you get charged $$$.

Or you can use this simple method and it will only cost you a paperclip to see the problem.

Items needed: Brain, hands, tools to remove seat, paperclip.

Step 1. Take off seat! Unbolt the two bolts holding the seat on and set them, along with the seat aside.

Step 2. The cluster of wires you need to find will be behind the battery if your looking the same way the bike is facing forward. Find the wire cluster with the white adapter on the end, the adapter will have a little black rubber square thing that fits snugly over it. Looks alot like the one that covers the positive red bolt on your battery.

Step 3. Once located remove rubber piece. It should look something like this...

Step 4. Locate the white with red trace and black with white trace wires. They are side by side.

Step 5. Find the ports where they go into the adapter on the other side. Bend your paperclip so it will fit in there without wanting to pull itself out. Don't insert yet.

Step 6. Turn your bike on. Gauge should be reading your coolant temperatures like normal.

Step 7. Insert Paperclip into the exact ports that match up with the white with red trace wire and black with white trace wire. You might have to push a little. Not too hard that you break it off in the port though.

Step 8. Look where the coolant temperature should be. If there is nothing wrong it should read "-C00" That's a good sign! If it reads a different code. Write it down and refer to the ECU code list!
NOTE: It will read "¯C00" notice the upperscore* when your rpms reach 4,000 and above. This is normal and I suggest revving it to 4k just to make sure yours reads that.
Note: My FI Light is on because I haven't started my bike, you can test it with your engine on or off. I recommend on so it can fully test properly.

Step 9. Remove the paperclip and your coolant temp indicator should return! Stop here if you got the normal codes! Put the wire cluster back in it's place.

Step 10. If your here it could mean some trouble, nothing too big though. Just refer to the list and find out what your problem is. Do some searching about it and wa-lah!

Yup. I just used a paper clip to jump the diagnostic plug to get the FI code on my GSXR.
