    Nesr r6 wisdom

Hope everyone is having a good winter... I have been working on mah bike a little bit to pass the time and ran into a little problem. I finally put on a full exhaust, PC III, block off plates, and k&n air filter. I'm using the map for the bike/exhaust and have found that the bike Run like shit when cold. Won't idle until it's warmed up considerably, and then it's fine. Runs great, but sometimes surges at idle and stalls. I've searched the interwebz, synced the throttle bodies, and set the closed throttle position... any ideas? Do I need a Dyno tune to straighten this out? Bike is an 06 r6 w/9000 miles, and didn't behave this way before the new parts.

A dyno with a sniffer will be the best way to dial in the mapping. You may be able to correct it tweaking by hand but it'll be trial and error.

you should be able to find someone with a similar map and use theirs.

    Re: Nesr r6 wisdom

Did you mess with the idle adjustment and try to fix the issue???

    this:

try holding the start button a bit longer, even as the motor starts to fire off, hold the button a second or 2 longer.

DO NOT fuck with the little screw on the back of the throttle body unless you are prepared to buy a spare set off Ebay. once moved, you won't get the bike to idle correctly again if you mess with that tiny screw. It's way the heck out of the way for a reason. you can flash your ecu to up the idle, or go with a kit ecu/harness.

and I would cross post this on the WERA13x forum as there is a lot of good wrench turners there and they know there shit my 2 cents

i doubt it's the map, but that's a quick fix that you can eliminate as one of the possiblities.

The only thing I haven't tried was to put the stock filter back in... the map says,"stock or aftermarket filter" so it's not specific. Maybe I'll try that.

Gas is from last September w/stabilizer in it. I think it could be part of the problem

Smutty, should I get some fresh fuel and add some injector cleaner or just straight fuel?

Thanks... I'll swap out the fuel and do another cold start and see what happens. If that doesn't do it, I'll swap air filters, and if that don't work I'll get a custom map on the dyno.

I have an 06 also with all the mods you mentioned. IMO, you should get it custom tuned. KWS down in Charleston setup my bike and it runs flawlessly. Worth every penny, especially with the power curve improvements

    Re: Nesr r6 wisdom

I siphoned out the old fuel, ran it until all the old gas ran out and filled it up with fresh and went for a spin. Still runs good warm, but I am still getting a surging idle (goes up to 2200rpm then falls below 1000 and almost dies). I give it a couple revs and it idles good for a minute, then starts surging again. I have a feeling it is still going to run like shit when I start it up cold. It's got to be the map or air filter. I'll throw the stock filter in and see what happens

If I remember correctly, I paid just under $300 a few years ago. If you go that route, make sure you go to someone that knows what they're doing

The cost of a custom map at this point is all labor, $150 to $300 depending on how quickly it comes into it and how good the tuner is.

    Re: Nesr r6 wisdom

I got mine mapped at Robs Dyno. We know what that pulled for power before it popped.

I know my r6 used to idle a little rough when it was cold. It didnt surge but it was certainly cold blooded. Once a temp reading came up on the dash it would calm down and idle super smooth.
