So my '86 Yamaha FZ600 has had this electrical problem for who knows how long, and i tried workin it out last summer, turns out its a bit more intensive than i was up for, and now i need to find a garage that still works on these things. Everywhere ive gone has said that 86 is too old and their technicians aren't certified to do that. Anyone know of a good place to get this looked at?
If anyone's curious the problems that the pick-up coils dont line up strait with the commutator and no electric current is flowing, hence no magnetized rotor, ===> no current for the stator to pick up, which means my battery doesn't get charged and the bike dies.
Thanks for any comments!

These guys are great. They mostly work on Yamahas.
How about in Western mass?
I saw that you were in Williamstown but it's tough to find peeps who work on older bikes....so...nope...I don't know anyone in Western Mass....also check out SRNE...there are a bunch of folks from Western Mass on that site.

Where abouts in wesern mass are you?
The FZ600 is a very simple bike. Any good Yamaha shop should be able to deal with it.

Im out in Williamstown, which is basically 3 minutes from Vermont. Its North-west Mass. I've also been toying around with the idea of selling her this summer, because im graduating from college and need some cash pretty badly before i get drop-kicked out into the real world. So if anyone's looking for a nice project.....![]()
If you get desperate, and cant find anyone closer, there is a guy here in Vermont (just a little south of Burlington) that is VERY good with older Yamahas.
Try RPM Cycle in Pittsfield.

Was gonna say the same thing or talk to skip too.I live in pittsfield and i used to have an 86 fz600 when i was like 14 with the same exact problem wasnt recharging just killing the battery but this was back in 97 or so, i didnt quite get mine fixed before it got impounded and that was last i seen of it.If that dont work out for ya i have a friend that lives in sheffield thats an A+ bike mechanic been through mmi maybe he could help ya out .take care
if you do decide to sell it drop me an email to tgjf413@msn.com and fill me in on how much your looking to get for it.
Agreed. Sounds suspect that ANY Yami dealership would say they can't work on it...Originally posted by Karaya One
