Do ignition key assemblies have electronics that can be damaged by lube?
I have an older 95 FZR600 commuter that sits outside, and the key position keeps getting stuck in the off position...needs a lot of jiggling and key bending to make it to on...was going to try a squirt of lube before getting a new lock and key set
I figure if it works - free fix. If not, why not replace the new lock and key set with a newer R6?

Get some dry graphite lube, it'll lubricate without without trapping dirt/grit like a wet lube would.
WD 40 wouldn't be bad too, just don't flood the lock 'cause as Josh said it will attract dirt and debris. BUT it will loosen and lubricate.
On older bikes not really. Some of the newer bikes like the ducati with the chip in the key may, but if there is any concern you could always use some isopropyl alcohol and compressed air to "blast" the stuff out of the lock. The alcohol won't damage electronics. It isn't a "new" key is it? Some of the fresh keys aren't perfect and will stick in the lock until they break in. Sandpaper on the edges (not on the peaks, but the long edge if that makes sense) might take the burrs off.
just lube the bag out of it and run your key in and out a bunch of times.

WD-40 worked really, really well...it turns like new!
much thanks!
