I'm guessing you left pump gas in the tank for 6 months without any stabil too.

    Just replace the battery.

A battery that sits (in a nonheated garage) w/o being used (thus charged) for a 1-5 month period in New England temperatures will likely freeze.

A car battery, exactly the same. Even if you leave your car battery for a week, it might not freeze. After enough time, it will.

If it has a warranty, replace it. If it doesn't, replace it.

    They will probably warranty it.

Usually gums the hell out of the carbs if you don't put stabil in it.

I noticed it's much worse now with the ethanol fuel.

What used to be able to sit for a month now has to be basically stored.

Yep. Left my sisters bike all winter without stabilizing. It started up but ran pretty shitty. Rode it to the gas station...drained all the gas out into the parking lot...and rode it home..all better!

got it jumped today and let it warm up to 220. went to start it again and it was dead..what does this mean?battery not charged enough?if it was running does that mean the battery is not frozen?

I'd say your battery is trash. You need to keep it on a tender in the winter to keep it from draining and "freezing". The tender is only $30.

Did you do the trickle charge as suggested? No.

    Read very carefully:

Trickle charge the battery first. THEN put it in your bike and start it. The bike's charging system is not enough to charge the battery.

The bike's charging system is enough to maintain it and charge it a little, but not bring it back to life... and that's if you actually ride it. Letting the bike idle won't do a damn thing. The stator spins way too slow at idle to charge it.

Next winter, buy a battery tender and plug it in or bring it inside.

I made the mistake of not plugging in my Tuono over the winter... Luckily an overnight charge on the battery tender was enough to bring it somewhat back to life, but it's still a little weak. I should be able to get by for a while though.

To clarify the clicking noise, that's the starter relay... from the way I understand it, the charge from the battery isn't enough to close the relay and keep it closed, so it's closing and opening in rapid succession.

Do to internal current paths a lead acid battery looses about 1% of its charge per day. Thus in 3 1/2 months it is a dead duck. If you charge your battery once at New Years you can save it.

As it discharges the sulfates leave the acid making it closer to water and as such easier to actually freeze at winter temperatures. The freeze swelling will tears it up inside. Additionally If there is a thick sulfate layer on the plates it starts ONCE then the vibrations shake off the sulfates that collect in the bottom of the battery shorting out the plates... no more battery.

A cold like 20 degrees battery has 1/2 the starting amps as a 70 degree battery.

May not be scientific but the old wives say to trickle 1amp charge a new battery overnight rather than slap it in a vehicle. This supposedly vastly increases life of battery.

LASTLY modern machines are FUEL INJECTED both the fuel pump and the injectors take a healthy amount of electric power. They can not be "bump" started with a DEAD battery. Nice story Grandpa.

Go to Walmart buy the battery

That suprises me. We bump started the FZ6 last year when the battery was junk.

Ah gotcha. I dunno if it ran like ca-ca or not - bought the battery from you, installed, and rode.

Not really a wives tale, IMO. You want to trickle charge any new battery because relying solely on the electrolite followed by using the charging system of your machine will create chemical memory in the battery that isn't always correctable.
