So I am helping my friend with his bike. It's a 93 zx6. It feels like the bike hits a wall around 5 or 6k. Not sure what rpms because there is no tachometer. Also this bike does not have a stock exhaust. It's a Honda can. My geuss is that the honda can allows more air flow and tr carbs stock jets cannot not supply enough fuel. Will a jet kit solve this? Which kit should I get. There's a dynojet kit for a hundred or am I better off buying bigger main jets.
From what you say, I would check the carbs thoroughly, if it is only a can and everything else is stock then I don't think that is your problem. Dismantle, check and clean everything thoroughly using carb cleaner and compressed air then re assemble and make sure you syncronize.
Why no tach?
Good point I'll take those apart tonight and clean them instead of spending money. No tach because the bike has been street fighter out so the gauges and front fairings have been removed
Maybe a clogged main jet...?

Air filter.
Clogged Jets.
I'm with Degsy.
Make sure you are getting air. A clogged main jet is not likely. You would have clogged the idle jets first as they are much smaller giving you an idle issue/low speed issue.
I worked on my brother 91 GSX-R and it had a K&N with the wrong restrictor in it causing it to go super rich at high rpm. It would not rev past 8-10. It took me a bit to figure out. The K&N was in the bike when he bought it and I did not know there were different restrictors. Thank you K&N website.
If you have a mouse nest or other type restriction in the intake you would have the same symptom.

What he said. Clogged mains? Doubt it. Falls on face halfway up rev range? No air.
KISS - Keep it Simple... Take out the air filter, ride it around, see if it still happens. How old is the gas? Is the fuel filter plugged? If it's backfiring - that's a sign of plugged pilot jets and air passage in the carbs. Good idea to take them out and hand clean them. Keep track of the parts, the center ones may have different jets than the outers... Good luck.
