    Jetting Help

Hey guys I am new to this board and I figured why not start with a good question. I bought a 2002 SV 650 in April of last year and it started to run like crap later in the summer. I would try to give it a nice roll on the throttle and it would bog down and it was running with a skip. I figured resync and Jet. I got a stock pipe but its def been bored out because its loud. I pulled my plugs and they were white so hey running lean. I hear jetting is pretty easy with the kits and directions but to be honest I do NOT wanna mess it up. The resynching is pretty easy but I dont have gauges. I just met a guy named Jaime who lives in Waltham and rides an RC51 (I bought a bike stand off of him) and he told me about this board. I am part of SVRider.com already but I figure why not join another. I know I dont know anyone on here but would anyone who owns and SV and has done it before or done it b4 on another bike be willing to give me a hand or advice? The real question is can I rejet with a stock can? Also, Do you think just resyncing the carbs will fix the lean condition as well as the running like crap problem?

Bikes tend to run slightly lean from the factory... but you're probably NOT gonna need a jet kit w/ the stock exhaust (could be the packing is just blown out & that's why it seems loud?) but if it takes a jet kit, there's no reason why you can't do it w/ the stock exhaust if it fixes the mixture. Definitely wait for the SV guys to chime in, but i'm gonna guess that shimming the needles might be enough... but i'm not really up to par on my carb knowledge.

All i know is that my bike has a little bit of a "factory lean spot" & that's what was recommended to me if i wanted to play around w/ it. If i'm gonna do it i'd have to look into it some more & see what exactly I need to do but i'll probably let it be since it's just a track/street bike, not a race bike. Obviously your bike has more of an issue though if it's runnin like crap.

pull your carbs off + clean them out thoroughly--your choke may be fuckin up causing it to run lean + crappy, also check all vacuum lines for leaks/cracks

you got 3-4 months before riding season

also, jetting an sv will give it more power--which it needs!

check to see if the sound deadening foam is still under the tank or if it's coming unglued, that was a common problem, the intake sucking the foam and restricting the air flow

other than that, make sure you hace a clean air filter, synced carbs and good plugs

WHen your carbs are out of Sync does that cause a lean condition or can it? If so then I will just sync it up and go. Thanks. Also the padding under the tank is in good condition and is not coming off.

I'm not too good with carbs myself , but I'm pretty sure it can cause a lean condition. Anyways , the padding under the tank .. some people rip the padding out cause it was just made to deaden the sound and some claim to gain HP from ripping it out .. I ripped mine out , don't feel much difference but the bike does sound alot better

Anyways, goto svrider.com ... they have alot more info , especially in the forum and , tips and tricks section

Also I have a m4 full race exhaust for sv650 , new front header pipe cause the old one got crushed in, its a lil bit scratched but still works well , can let it go pretty cheap if you want it. Might as well get a exhaust if your rejetting it
