Hi Folks - just a quick question really.
Noticing over the last year and change increasing afterfire/popping on overrun, especially if using engine braking on a downhill grade.
While it does sound rather badass, sign of a potential lean condition?
Plugs changed at 20k over to iridium, no real change.
(Debating a PC3 if so)
(Bile is a R1200GS, 07 - my last two beemers had farily little afterfire/popping)

I was going to ask if you have ever checked the exhaust out on your GS... I noticed one day I had a weird leak on mine at the header to exhaust pipe transition, like it just wasn't put on all the way...weird. All I notice was less perceived pinging as a result - but in hindsight I think it was just unmuffled exhaust popping through the gap.
They didn't upgrade the GS enough to my liking so I have to wait another year or two before I decide this issue freaks me out and I need to trade it![]()
The DOHC stuff is only step 1, I'll give them a year or two to play with it then buy the version with the real HP bump.
Although the valve adjustments now are so easy.
I will be interested in your findings whatever happens because I have noticed my bike does do this a little more as it ages...but not enough I ever considered it to be something of annoyance or concern.
I'm going to have a thorough test of it tomorrow PM - I'll let you know what if anything I find. On the upside, it is hilarious to be able to do it on command (close throttle, crack it open a touch quickly, pop pop bang burble burble, doubly so if next to someone in a convertible on the phone.
The big downhill stretches on Route 2 are *ideal* for this
I like the exhaust then valve adjust anglr
Back in the drag racing day
cruise at 50 plus
engine kill of
throttle open
engine kill on
extra fun with open collectors also at night should be good for 4 ft flame show

I'm so old I am sure now the injectors shut off with the kill switch
I guess you have to install a separate ignition only kill switch

The Buell does it on command on decel... Never tried the engine-off-engine-on thing though, that might be fun...
