Just repaired my crashed tail and am in the middle of painting it. There's primer and black paint (Duplicolor Honda car paint) on there now, and then I want to do a design in white. Is it okay to put masking tape directly on the paint coat, or would that mess it up? Should I do one coat of clear (Spraymax 2k) first before putting the masking tape down?

Just let the paint dry & cure a little, then tape away.

Next time Ideally you want to put the white down first then tape off what you want to keep and shoot the color over it. Its easier to cover white than to cover color with white... let the paint dry then tape away!

I'd use the blue painters tape instead of conventional masking tape. I've had better results with it removing cleanly
If your design is intricate, or you need hard edges, spend the few bucks on ordering 3m nylon painters tape. It looks and feels like electrical tape, comes in different widths. makes the most crisp edges ive ever gotten. I usually do the edges with this, then fill all the empty space with the blue stuff. Works very well.
