    Repairing SS brake lines

After going through hell and back trying to do a front MC rebuild, turns out the sealing faces on one of my SS banjo fittings are not parallel. After being quoted $140 for a new set of SS lines, I'd like to investigate repair instead.

Are special tools required to replace the banjo fitting? Can I do it with basic hand tools? If not, is there anybody here that has done it and is willing to replace a fitting for me?

front brakes is something i'd never mess with.

all the power to you for repairing your lines, but $140 would make me feel all warm & fuzzy inside knowing i didnt potentially mess something up.

You need specific tools and fittings, and enough slack to account for trimming the lines after pulling the failed fittings... That's assuming you can get fittings to match the tubing. You may be going down a painful rabbit hole.

Get Spiegler lines. They allow you to rotate the banjo bolts, so your lines are easier to route. And the front line kits are $115.

    Over the fender kit: http://www.spieglerusa.com/brake-line-kit-1230.htm (part# S-SU0182)

    Two-line kit: http://www.spieglerusa.com/brake-line-kit-1231.htm (part# S-SU0183)

Or you can get them form sportbiketrackgear for $110.

Spiegler is who quoted me $140 for a 2 line kit.

If it's going to be a bitch to replace a banjo fitting, maybe I'll just go back to OEM style rubber lines. I'm actually not the biggest fan of the SS lines, brake force is too abrupt and they're harder to modulate. Biggest issue is the fact that my bike is far from stock, it's streetfightered with Renthal bars and 2" risers. I've been told that Bandit 1200 lines will fit, and I've found them on ebay for $30, but I'm not so sure about using 12 year old brake lines, or if they'll even fit.

FWIW, for those of you who this might also happen to, I ended up grinding the faces of the banjo fitting back into parallel within a tenth. It's damn nice working in a manufacturing facility with talented machinists all around you!

Put the brakes back together last Friday, got all the air out of the lines and went for a quick spin. Brakes are 100% better, and don't leak!
