Was doing some routine maintenance and somehow stripped on the threads in the oil pan of my 07 r6.The threads on the bolt look perfect so its the oil pan i need to fix. I'm not really sure whats the best way to go about this other than finding a oil pan somewhere. Anyone have any suggestions? I was trying to make the Bomoto day monday but looks like I'll just be spectating and snapping pictures.

Been there, done that. Heli-coil. Back when I made that rookie mistake it was a $50 lesson learned, local dealership did it.
Did you bring them the oil and or did they do it while everything was attached to the engine? I guess I'll call a dealership tomorrow and see what they can do since I don't have any days off till monday.
You sure the pan didn't split up the side? The R6's love doing that if you over tighten it.
Luckily although mine was stripped, I was able to get it to the point where it would go in and snug up enough so that it was a slow weep while running, maybe two drops per minute. I was able to carefully limp it to the shop which luckily for me was only a few miles from my house. I brought them the whole bike. I assume they just dropped the pan with the motor in the bike, or were able to drain the oil and do it with the pan still on the motor.
FYI... there is an oil pan for your bike on ebay, buy-it-now $25 and its located in Brockton. Contact the seller, tell em you'll buy it now and pick it up.

after searching on the r6-forums it sounds like this happens a lot. I emailed that guy about the pan. http://www.r6-forum.com/forums/showt...hlight=oil+pan
Thanks for the help!
I don't know if this helps for the R6, but I just did the exact same thing on my DRZ400 (I'm blaming the previous owner for overtightening the drain bolt!). Car parts places will have a "single oversize" drain bolt that self-taps its way up your ruined threads and is just slightly larger than the existing hole. Comes with a gasket and worked perfectly!
I was definitely worried, as the DRZ pan is part of the engine case castings... not replaceable!

This might be my only option. A friend also told me about a rubber plug with a metal core that expands. At this point my chances of making the track day on Monday arent looking very good. the guy with the oil pan hasn't messaged me back nor do any of the dealerships near me have a gasket in stock.
Might be able to use liquid gasket (aka RTV) in place of a gasket if you're really desperate. Autozone sells some. It'll be a bitch to get off later if/when you go to put the real gasket in. Make sure to get the type that is good for oil-contact, and use extremely sparingly.

I'm thinking you do not want to go to a track day with any type of jury rigged solution to this problem. Even if it passes the organization's tech, the risk to yourself and other riders should be considered.
Glad I'm not the only one that's done this. It was on my race bike and I ended up going the ebay route instead of jerry rigging something for the same safety reasons that were mentioned.
Helicoil or up-drill and tap to the next bigger size. Both are viable fixes. It only takes a few minutes to fix......
