    High Temp Exhaust System Sealant

Well, after a year of looking, I finally found a standard mount midpipe for my Two Brothers exhaust system. ($20, shipped from a member at RRZone, great shape too!)

I looked at their site for exhaust installation and they mention hi-temp sealant use for sealing the pipe sections together.

Is there any over the counter sealant that you can get at an auto parts store that does the same thing?

Read the back of the package - most red (orange) RTV's only go intermitantly to 600 degrees F. Depending on how far back in the system you mount it this might be fine. I'd call a local hot rod shop and see if they have anything better.

me = not mechanically inclined or knowledgable.

    What does RTV stand for?

And the midpipe is about 1.5-2 feet back from the headers at its closest point ot the motor.

RTV is room temperature vulcanizing sealent, Automotive silicone seal. Comes in blue for low temp, and red (orange) for high temp. If you walk into any auto parts store and ask the kid behind the counter for high temp RTV they should be able to point you towards a tube of it. The worst thing that can happen is it lasts a little while and you need to replace it with something better later.

Let it fully cure before you fire it up! its tempting to fire it up thinking that the heat will help it cure faster, but it usually just ruins the seal, had to learn that twice the hard way.

Yeah, that's what the instructions said. I finished the job and it's going to sit for at least 24 hours.

Red RTV should work, I've installed it on STi midpipes without any issues quite a few times(whenever the customer forgets gaskets).
