    Throttle free play

For my racebike I put on a quick turn throttle thats not designed for the bike, so I had to do some mucking with it to get it to work, I had to cut off the adjusters on the cable to get it to fit, and it finally does. However, theres very much free play on the throttle, it just off completely, but thats about it, theres not much movment, like a tiny amount. How important is it to have free play in the throttle? Mind you this is a race bike and will be going for 8 laps at a time, I dunno if that makes any difference. Makes me nervous not knowing how important it is, but having this throttle will make a big difference for me, so Id like to know before I get out there and flog the hell out of the girl.

Start the bike and turn your handlebars lock to lock. Make sure the bike doesn't auto-rev. If you have zero freeplay when the bars are straight ahead often turning the bars can pull the cable enough to engage the throttle slightly.

I like very little free play. You don't have too much power to worry about, so as long as it doesn't rev while steering, just go out and give it fistfuls!!!

With the bars at full lock in each direction, open the throttle and let it snap closed, if you can hear the resulting snap from the carbs as the slides bang against the idle speed screw, you're good to go.

Throttle free play is a personal preference and I prefer as little as possible. If you like some, leave some. If you don't like it, dial it out but make sure that steering doesn't become a secondary throttle.

    Re: Throttle free play

Ok next issue. Just got home and tried to get her going, if I hit the starter button and hold it, the bike runs, but the second I let go of the button it dies... Im lost here, I wired in a starter off another bike, could I have gotten the wiring wrong somehow (probably) and does anyone know how to fix it?
