Seriously, these things are great. I reluctantly got one on the suggestion of someone here (Paul?) when our youngest was 3 or 4. Little sumbitch was riding pedal bikes by 5. At 7 and extremely small for his age, he's literally warn out THREE 'BMX' bikes of varying sizes & qualities. He's got his own mountain bike and freestyle bike now - riding wheelies, launching off jumps, doing his peg-stand stuff, etc. Again, already at 7 and TINY for his age. We had to move up to the 20" wheeled bikes simply because the build quality on the cheapos seems much better on the larger bikes. Never, EVER has he used anything with training wheels...

We took the pedals of my daughters 12" Wally world bike, took her about 5 days to start coasting down hill, picking up her feet and learning to "balance". We took her to the Hopkinton bike path and had her complete the first half of the bike path to Milford. Next day we never looked back, also cheaper then buying a bike built with no pedals.
Only issue she had was other kids staring @ her.

Let me check with the wifey tonight to see if we still have ours (link).
definitely check out striders. we didn't start our daughter on one,a nd she is doing pretty well, but at the track in april, she was pedaling around, having trouble keeping speed up to stay balanced, and there were little ones a couple years younger coasting around on those things without any help or issues.

Just got one of these for my little cousin who just turned 3 last week for Christmas!
Can't wait to start him on the bike path! My cousin (his dad) rode a lot growing up...and wants his son to go mudding and ride quads instead since it's safer... Trying to eff that plan up as much as possible.

I've got 2 of them, you can can have one and anyone else who wants one can. I'm in Windham, NH, OP, let me know if you want one you get first pick. First come first serve for the 2nd. Here, just grabbed a pic.

Ask your cousin (his Dad) if it is safer for your little cousin to have a vehicle, a quad, that is much heavier than your little cousin rolling over onto and potentially pinning your little cousin, or to have a vehicle that is much lighter than a quad, a small dirt bike, that when it falls over your little cousin can potentially step off of it without getting entwined with the vehicle and if it does wind up laying on your little cousin he at least has a chance of getting it off of himself
Sorry for the theadjack but I just don't understand how people think quads are safer than dirt bikes for little people or in general. Get going quickly on a quad and get out of shape and things can go bad in a big way in a hurry.
I find the whole situation amusing because my cousin did a lot of dumb shit on bikes growing up. Have a sweet picture of him ghost riding his yz250 off a jump between hay fields. Did some dumb stuff on his gsxr750 too. Think he just doesn't want his son to do all the dumb stuff he did. Considering thus far his son is a spitting image of him.
