Looking to buy a used gas Generator

I'm looking to buy a used gas generator to power my Woodcraft warmers (1000 watts needed). Ideally it'd be an inverter generator and sub 1600 watts output. I'm not against buying a regular unit as long as it's not TOO loud and smokey. Space is also a factor. I have a small car and an even smaller trailer... I need a small, compact generator.
Let me know if you guys have anything that might fit the bill......I'm looking to buy one ASAP.

South of Heaven, buy a Honda. Otherwise, you are likely to buy twice. Just bite the bullet.

Honda EU2000i, I just bought one to use for camping and love it. They can be had for around $1100 or so. I bought the Companion with the twist lock plug. And it's very quiet.

Can be had a little lower (in the $900s) shipped on eBay.

Yeah I know. Look into it though, a lot of times you can't get warranty work done because it wasn't bought at an authorized dealer. Plus mine was the Companion which is a little more expensive. It wasn't worth the risk to me for a couple hundred bucks. Plus I like the dealer I bought it from.

Do a Craigslist search, sometimes you can find them on there. I hear the Yamaha inverters are pretty good also if you run across a used one of those.

I have this one from TractorSupply. Was not the quietest thing but gets the job done, 2 warmers and a cell phone is fine http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/stor...carb-compliant

I definitely don't mind spending more for a good quality unit but I feel that a Honda or comparable brand at or near the $1k price point is overkill for what I need. I only need the generator for the purpose of track days. I have zero ambitions of camping (except for during track weekends) and I more than likely will very rarely need it at home (I live in a townhome in a condo community).......Having said all that I'll probably end up buying a $450 inverter and it'll break next season, then I'll spend $1k anyways like xxaarraa said! Haha!

Dougie, how loud is loud? Are your pit neighbors at the track loading their shotguns or what? lol

The problem with the Tractor Supply generator is even if you're only running a night light it's wide open.

Re: Looking to buy a used gas Generator

I'm in the same boat - I only want a generator for tire warmers and the offchance I ever need one for a power failure - maybe a few times a year. I keep searching for Honda's & Yamaha's on Craigs but cringe at spending upwards of $700 for a used unit. While I'm not in a rush, I'm still searching craigs but I've been considering these two alternatives:

Ryobi at Home Depot - 3 year warranty valid at any Home Depot. Pretty good reviews and warranty is pretty great IMO. Wheels are a nice touch.
    http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-220...2200/203617901

Harbor Freight Predator - Sold by a local equipment store reconditioned. Price is cheap and mixed reviews. I believe it's similar if not the same as Generac/Champion generators of similar watts. For the price, I wonder if it's worth the gamble. Can also purchase 1 or 2 year extended warranty. The fact it's sold reconditioned thru a local store (not HF) makes me feel like it'd be fine, but maybe that's just me.

A friend of mine has that ryobi and likes it. I might get one so
I don't have to run my big generator over night, just to power up
    a few lights.

The problem with 1K inverters is first that most aren't 1K continuous: they can be as little as 600 watts continuous. So there isn't much that you can run. But a Yamaha is as little as $800 and a Briggs and Stratton 1Kw inverter can be had for under 700.

Harbor Freight is $500 so that's the floor. They sell a standard 800w generator for $129.

I got the Honda and haven't looked back. I know somebody that has the Ryobi and hates the way it's constantly revving really loudly.

Don't be the guy that parks in the center of the paddock, puts his loud ass generator behind his truck and points the muffler towards half the people at the track.

I got the Honda and haven't regretted it. The resale values on CL and ebay are reassuring that I haven't made a bad choice and won't lose out if I have to have an "out" sale in the future.

I know a guy that got the Ryobi to save a few hundo and hates it. It's always revving super loud.

Whatever you do, don't be the guy with the loud-ass generator that parks in the middle of the paddock, puts his generator behind his truck/trailer so it doesn't bother him, and points the speaker...I mean muffler...towards half the people at the track. I won't put sugar in your gas tank or anything like that, but if you leave your coffee brewing and come back with it tasting a little ehh...tangy...and I'm standing around like this ...well... karma's a bitch....

No wonder you sit there with your laptop between sessions - must be watching porn so you can punish the guy with the loud generator. Yours tastes tangy? Weird. I am always complimented on how mine tastes sweeeet.

Re: Looking to buy a used gas Generator

Spend the money on a honda. It ran my warmers easily all day without a problem. What you don't want to do is buy the bare minimum you need to power what you're doing. You always want to have a bit of overhead so the machine isn't working 100%+ working load all the time when it's being used. It will last longer that way. Honda is also offering 0% financing for 12months. Combine that with the tax free holiday coming up you are getting a pretty good deal. It's what I did last year.

I bought my honda at Norfolk power in Norfolk. Most of my outdoor equipment came from there. Not sure if you would consider that local living in Medford but its an option.

Any reason you guys insist on a "local place" ? My understanding is that as long as it comes with proof of purchase, warranty card & registration card, and you register the product, you get all the manufacturer warranties. Buying online saves $250-300.

Unless it's some kind of "support the local economy" principle. Which is an interesting discussion in today's world all in itself, and ironic, considering it's a "foreign" product that you are buying.

    Just curious, is all.

Whoa....not sure how you jump from what I said straight to

I think you've been inhaling too many gas fumes from having a motorcycle parked in your bedroom.

You should just give the KLX to me before it gets worse....for your own safety and all.

Meanwhile, I will be praying for your soul. ....and a free sumo....
