Looking to spend about $4k. Preferably Japanese. Good gas mileage and a presentable appearance are my criteria. Must be a 4 door.
Anyone got a car for sale that would fit the bill?
Buy that hawt 2.7T that was listed
Ever thought about a lease? Honda leases are really aggressive right now, bunch of my friends including myself have one now.

2001 Toyota Corolla?
126k/auto
the good: starts/runs like a top, very reliable, and economical, cheap to own, right in your price range, pw/pl/tach/power mirrors/cruise control, auto headlights (installed a manual override switch if you don't want them always on), rear seats can fold down, outside temp gauge, has alloy wheels and comes with an extra set of steelies for snows (w' a pair of 40% bridgestone blizzaks mounted), rear tires are new from last month, tranny is tight, non-smoking owner, strong battery
the bad: relatively rough body (dings, scratches, dents...some due to tipping-bike related incidents), engine swapped @ 100,xxx miles w' 30k mile engine, A/C condenser replaced w' engine, worked last year, doesn't this year, has a slight shimmy and may need an alignment, and I don't think all the rear defroster wires are working, I cut the door panels to install higher end front speakers, pulled the rear speakers to vent the sub (can probably dig them up & re-install them though), has a "modified" hitch (you have to see it), oil spilled in the trunk so the carpet is greasy, clock doesn't work, and the CD bucket/double din cover is cracked
meh...it's a cheap, reliable commuter car...I will take NEWER pics to see if it matches your idea of presentable...ya interested? kbb "fair" is $4475
here are some old pics (more scratches by now, haha):
