I'd take a street bike and convert it if need be, but must be cheap...don't wanna take a nice expensive bike and convert...
Ask around for me....
I think I have one for you. Hold on and let me get in touch with my buddy...
BTW, want a Ducati Dainese jacket? LoL
I do....I'm a size 52/42....what ya got??
Oh, lol...The one we talked about....heh
Correct. Tri-colore...soooo pretty!

Ok....I bought a used 2011 848evo and will set it up as track only....shit I'm gonna be poor now....
The bike I bought was for sale at the dealership....it got knocked over by an ez up tent, so it's got scratches on one side...then it also got scratched on the other side...my plan is an Ohlins shock and tires....Then hit the track. I'm leaving the rest of it the way it is...at least this year.
The bike was only $7k, due to it being knocked over. At this price point I can rip it at the track for 2 seasons and resell it for what I paid....or close to what I paid.
I'm doing this because my 1198S Corse is a rare, limited bike...it's #85 out of 300....so that bike will never see the track again.
By the way, any leads on a used Ohlins?? I know you've had a few...
Yeah, I've heard that before. That's never the case![]()
Congratulations, that sounds like a good deal. But doubt you'll get $7k two years from now. The 899s will be in the used market by then. It'll be like what the 749s are going for today, NOT $7k.
Good plan, I hear ya. The 1198S Corse is a beautiful bike. Besides, the 848 is a better track bike for the North East tracks anyway.
I sold my 515 when I picked up a TTX. I know there is a guy who lives in North Attleboro who is trying to sell his 515 from a 1198S I believe - check the ducati.org forum for his thread (tomcrane).
Can I get the stock bodywork off it when you mount track plastics?

And honestly, costs aside....I just want to have an 848 trackbike......so fuck it, I got one.
LOL, the 848 is a beast of a track bike. But nowhere near as cheeeep as 748/996's are these days. Picked up my fully kitted 996 (mag 10-spokes, ohlins, slipper, nice rotors, SPS cams, full system... bladd bladda with street and track bodywork for a song. Deals to be had out there on the older bikes but the 848 is every bit as quick if not quicker than a 996 out of the box, hard to go wrong either way!
Not to mention a full 3 generations of chassis enhancements. I got into Ducatis later than most of you guys, so I have no nostalgic biases towards the older models. But its logical to think an 848 is much more refined and significantly more evolved than a 996 (probably more reliable as well, the Italians got their act together much later than the Japanese). 2008 was a very different world compared to 1998.

748 to 848 is night and day. S4Rs will go down as the best Duc ever built.
