There's always one.....
Dave, I was making a generalization. My point is that they're all round, rubber and stick to the road and that there's only a few differences as you progress up the chain from one to the other. There's nothing "magical" about slicks or DOT's that all of a sudden makes warmers a life-or-death prerequisite.

Hey - don't get me going on tire warmers....
They have done more damage to race tires, and are the source of more mis-information than anything else in the paddock.
Only ONE GUY says you must have them - the tire warmer salesman.

I don't use warmers at trackdays usually, mainly because I forget and I don't usually know when I'm going back out.
I do a lap at a medium pace then a lap a little faster and by lap 3 I'm at full speed.
Nhms is a rough pavement track and it has a lot of stop and go. So its fairly easy to get heat in the tires by braking and hard acceleration and the rough pavement produces heat as well, but the track is fairly short so I take 2 laps to ensure enough heat.

i ran dunlops DOTs (no warmers of course) last track day and the difference was huge comparing to Pilot Power 2CT..
louden seems pretty easy to bring tires to desired temperature 1 1/2- 2 is more than enough

Dave - you are pretty far away from me, but shoot me some pics of the tires.
For the record, I ran slicks at Jersey both days, and did not use warmers. It was chilly in the mornings! But per Tony and Pete's expert advice, I went out and just put some smooth laps down to build heat early. By mid 2nd lap I was riding at MY current pace and the bike was on rails. Now I don't claim to be super fast, but even as I worked on progressing and improving in different corners, trying to go faster each time around the track, I never had a problem with traction. As a note, there were a LOT of minor lowsides due to traction loss on cold tires, I never had an issue at all.
