Subaru Service Question...
Our '03 Subaru Forrester has 49,000 on it. Mostly highway, but otherwise a bit of stop and go.
Within the last 3000 miles, we have been getting a clutch chatter out of it as we raise the pedal into engagement. It's annoying, but bearable. However when its cold it shakes the car enough to really worry me.
The dealer says that its common, and often due to the hydraulic clutch. He wants the car in for its major 30K service which includes bleeding of the master cylinders, and changing of the tranny and diff. fluids. Everything else like replacing filters and such I had done by my independant - a Goodyear shop that does all of our fleet work and they know their Subies.
Now - Bertara Subaru wants $369.00 for this service. I want to try and force a warranty on the clutch and having them service it will help in getting this done. But, I know my idependant can do all the schedule says for about $150.00.
Is the factory service worth it?
Subaru Service Question...
Clutch is poop. Seemingly a VER common problem. But you probably already know where I'm going with this... :D
Actually, I'd have the service done by the stealership. I think it'll help you TONS when other common shit starts fading. Save and document EVERYTHING you have done to it. All that money you spend on their 'major' service intervals will cover the BIG ticket warranty items that you WILL eventually ask them to replace...
And if your local Soob service thug is half as cool as Sal at Manchester Subaru, they'll make good...
Hell! Maybe by then, Soob will actually ADMIT and take responsibilities for all the defects!
Subaru Service Question...
It may be something special to Subaru's, but my Saab has nasty chatter when hot, and from what I've heard, it's caused by a warped flywheel. A re-grind is the only solution.
Just what I've been told....
If it is something hydrolic, tell me so I can sell it for more!!!
Subaru Service Question...
Subie clutches suck. Get it replaced under warranty. Those Subes are some seriously overpriced pieces of shit... Sure would like an STi though. :D

BTW, Sube is great for having canned responses for, "If the customer complains... Say this...."
The service we experienced at Bertera was very good in comparison to past experiences with other vehicles.
