Yes, it's a long read but if you have the time there is some good info in here about oil.

I betchu do, now.
that should put the old "running car oil in your bike is ok" and "oil is oil" statements to rest
I used valvoline synthetic blend 10w40 last weekend when I changed the oil. After doing careful research on oil viscosity and shear numbers of all the oils in the store, as well as a double-blind taste test to determine fragrance, I spotted a sign on the wall that said "VALVOLINE: BUY 4 QUARTS, GET 1 FREE". So I did. The sign said to.
I don't know what I'm going to do with the other quart though, my bike only takes 4. Maybe I'll buy an RC boat and go play Exxon Valdez in my dad's lake. That would be fun.
I've put pretty much every kind of oil in this bike, I like to mix it up a bit...Shell Rotella-T, Mobil 1, Mobile Not 1, Castrol Syntec, and now valvoline. I like to think of my crankcase as a long island iced tea, all those oils mix together in there to add flavor and get it really fucked up. Only it hasn't worked yet, my bike still runs despite my best effort. Stupid bike, won't you die? Next time I'm gonna try canola oil, that's gotta be bad for it right there.
