NH just got a whole lot better!

Because this Masshole is moving there! I just closed on a house on Merrill Rd. in Candia earlier today! It's a modest sized cape with a full unfinished basement, 2 car garage, and 4.7 acres. Wish I could have found more land but I'll take that as a starting point.

Hopefully this weekend I can start moving all my crap up there. First and foremost though, I need to change all the locks and replace the pressure tank on the well. I figure the pressure tank will be a good intro into plumbing which I've never really had to do before.

After that I need to run through all the electrical parts of the house. There are several outlets wired backwards and some of the switched ones are actually switching the neutral line instead of the hot. Talk about slightly dangerous! The garage is a complete jury rigging of extension cords for the lights so I'll have to run though all of that too.

Anyone have contacts for an inexpensive 6 yard dumpster? I'm looking to keep things cheep and not have any questions asked if I throw out an old water heater and furnace among other things.

construction dumpsters are eeeksspensive $500+/mo + tipping fee $65-$75/ton

better off getting a small 2 yard dumpster for $70/mo for a pickup every other week, putting stuff in a pile and slowly reducing it over a few months

I have Casella Waste, and pay $66/ month and they pick it up every other thursday, they do a nice job, I will not admit publicly what exactly has gone in the dumpster, they do have a list of no no's, tires, computers, tv, paint etc. over the past couple years, I have gutted and remodeled my home, everything went, drywall, carpets, come to think of it, quite a bit of the Stonecrib went into my dumpster too If for some reasn, they don't pickup, they don't charge you for it either

what ever you do, stay clear of Waste Management, I think they are union or something, they never get out of truck, if garbage spills beside the dumpster, you have a mess to clean up, if your driveway looks like the slightest hint of a problem with snow n ice, they drive right by,
wether they pick up or not, you still get charged the same amount, I don't know what their rate are anymore, it's been 10 years since I had them, and they were charging the same as what I pay Casella now, and for only 1 pickup a month

Congratulations!!! One tip for a gut job on a room - to take down the drywall - Mark the centers of all the stud cavities (should be 16" apart). Cut from floor to ceiling with a rotary tool, or sawzall set at a little over 1/2 inch along the lines, and score the center seam with a box knife. Push in on the cut, twist, and the drywall will pop right off in 16" by 4 foot pieces. A lot easier to clean up then a billion little pieces if you use the old sledge hammer method. Good luck...

Thanks everyone. The house is in pretty good shape as it is. The problem is the style is quite out dated. My kitchen has brown cabinets, yellowish counter, olive sink, white stove with olive hood, creme refrigerator, and white tiles with gold flakes (the previous owners were quite old).

The carpets are good quality but ugly as sin so those will go at some point. I may keep the blue/green/red/purple shag carpet that is in one of the bedrooms for shits and giggles.

Some time in the future I want to open up the kitchen into the dining room and take down a wall between the living room and a bed room to make one larger area.

I have lots of ideas but not quite as much money as I used to so I'll have to play it by ear. I can pretty much do anything so long as I see it done once by someone who knows what they are doing so in the future if people want to trade work, I can more than likely be talked into it.

I'm sure we will have a housewarming party of some sort. Gotta figure out the logistics with the future wife. This is a very busy month for me and I just want to get settled in! I'll keep you posted though!

For now - if it works, clean it and leave it alone... I've lived with ugly and saved my pennies so I could pay cash for something better. A friend of mine has a red kitchen (think fire engine red)...

Is this your first house? Getting out of my lease into a morgage I wanted to get everything done ASAP - I was still in the live here for a year or two, move, repeat mode...

Bill, what's the problem with the pressure tank -- ruptured bladder?

I'm almost positive it's a ruptured bladder. It sounds like a thin stream of water is spraying against the inside of the steel tank. The tank is an old 30 gallonish Well-X-Troll with a fair amount of corrosion but it still holds pressure.

Get a big tank, and thank me later.
