The marine...

THE MARINE

( This doesn't get any better)

A United States Marine was attending some college courses between
assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan . One
of the courses had a professor who was a vowed atheist and a member of
the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to
the ceiling and flatly stated, "God, if you are real, then I want you
to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes."

The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes
went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am God. I'm still
waiting." It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine
got out of his Chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him;
knocking him off the plat form! . The professor was out cold.

The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other
students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence.
The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the
Marine and asked, "What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you
do that?" The Marine calmly replied, "God was too busy today
protecting America 's soldiers who are protecting your right to say
stupid stuff and act like an a-hole. So, He sent me."

I never understood the whole anti relgion in the world. What I mean is, if someone is not religious thats fine it s a choice. But why try to shake someone else's faith or beliefs whats the point. I personally believe you have to be a fool to believe the bible word for word, it doesnt mean I try to change everyones mind. For me the truth lies in the middle some where. The bible was written by men many years after jesus died, most of it was created to provide moral examples for people. Religion is not a black or white issue. Im not very religious at all, i question my own faith and belief all the time, but if religion gives people hope and comfort why not just let them be, I dont get it.

+1 .... people who try & convince everyone there is NO God are worse than the people who try to convince everyone there IS a God.

huh...and I thought God was all powerful, all knowing and all good. Surprises me that:

a. he was too busy to do the professor himself
b. didnt know that the Marine was going to knock the professor out since he is all knowing...
b. OR - if he knew that he allowed the Marine to harm one of his sheep since he is all good.

are you kdding? If you don't want to hear the other side then dont put your side out there. Keep it in church and keep it to yourself. At the end of the day your religious belief or spiritual path is your own private affair. But if you want to bring it to a public forum an athiest has every right to post his/her beliefs...

read my post again... this time replace God with "hope"... see if that makes a difference to you.

A local priest and a pastor were fishing on the side of the road. They thoughtfully made a sign saying, "The End is Near! Turn yourself around now before it's too late!" and showed it to each passing car.

One driver who drove by didn't appreciate the sign and shouted at them, "Leave us alone, you religious nuts!"

All of a sudden they heard a big splash, looked at each other, and the priest said to the pastor, "You think maybe we should have just said 'Bridge Out' instead?"

I don't really want to go into a long diatribe here. And I certainly don't want you to think it was an attack on you Pete. It wasn't. I get the whole hope thing...really. And if you ever want to have a serious discussion about why I oppose religion and BELIEVE...yes believe...that man might be better off without the notion of a self aware, guiding, creator, I'd be happy to have one with you...

I really dislike people posting up their religious opinions here and then taking offense if someone calls em on it. And I hate even more that I hit on these like a bass to on a plastic worm...

to dave religion conversations are like berkly gulp LOL... I think the point pete and I were getting at was that... weather its someone pushing religion in your face or pushing anti religion in your face, we both dislike both. Live and let live is my opinion, Let me think or believe what I want and leave me alone, regardless of my opinion. No one is trying to shake my faith per say but you see or read stuff all the time about anti religious groups or pro religious groups. Why cant people just back off and leave others alone!

Fictitious or not, if I were that Marine that supposedly punched this professor, the fact that he was an asshole would have had just as much to do with why I punched him than anything else.

Preaching that there is no God is like telling every kid in the world that there is no Santa, Tooth Fairy, Keebler Elves, etc.

This world is made up of extremists, which are really the only people who throw stuff in your face one way or another. If moe people would be happy with some middle ground maybe I could get some damn piece of mind! We had a funeral for an infant who died at birth. The mininster basically said we should rejoice because the baby never suffered the pain of living, i.e. being molested, dating, mean games children play... those are his words not mine. I almost slapped him myself. Everyone just takes things too far!

I don't think it's a true story.
