Any places left to ride quads in Ma?
Looks like I won't be buying a new street bike anytime soon, and my girlfriend and I have been thinking about picking up a quad just for something fun to do during the winter, I live between New Bedford and Wareham, just wondering what it takes to be legal?, where I can and can't go?, and if a 4wd is just overkill? thanks - bryan

Ride it where ever you want.
If you see blue lights or a green anything following you, go faster....muuuuch faster.

That's the old me, the new me wants a registered vehicle. I tried to find any spots to go and Freetown State Forest is still the closest, but it states it's motorcycle only.

I got stopped once by the fishcops... I hadn't seen them following me, The dork had his gun out of the holster and tried to get me on failure to stop for a officer and eluding arrest. I was registered in Ma at the time and paid my fine when I went to court. Got the resisting and eluding thrown out. I've never registered in Ma since. I stick to off road friendly NH !
Re: Any places left to ride quads in Ma?
October Mountain is open to ATV's. But not during winter. It was closed to recreational motor vehicles as of Nov. 30th.
(I was there on the 30th, on a dirtbike, with the sleet and freezing rain, everything was covered in ice, I broke my ass pretty good, been limping ever since.. :( )
Re: Any places left to ride quads in Ma?
In Mass you have Pittsfield state forest, ROctober state forest, and Tolland (Otis) state forest. Of course private property with permission:wink:
Tollerated area's are just that, "tollerated" and not legal. To keep them that way...shhhhhhh knowbody knows anything:teehee:

ROctober and how! Try it on two wheels with all the baby-heads, and exposed roots covered in a thin layer of ice. Still not quite sure what we were thinking. And now, sitting home nursing a badly pulled groin... I REALLY don't know what we were thinking... :mope:

Don't you have a couch in your living room?:rimshot:
(sorry, hope you find places to ride:wink: )

Been there, done that. I wish it wasn't a 3 hour ride for me because I enjoy Roctober Mt. I enjoyed it more on the Raptor, though it costs more to ride that there than the dirtbike...Roctober Mt + Raptor = new swinger skidplate after each visit:mecry:

It's only about 40 minutes for me... It's also on old Rt.8. One of the finest motorcycle roads around. Next season my friend... we are hitting that up...

Re: Any places left to ride quads in Ma?
on a more serious note, my buddy has been trying to get me to buy an ATV for years and I've said no because I've always though it was hard to find places to ride in MA.

Legal shit here:
http://www.mass.gov/dcr/recreate/orv.htm
There're also clubs with access to private lands, but a good majority of them are "family" (30+ pack strapped to the back of a 4WD behemoth) oriented.

:topic: how do you register a dirt bike?
registration info says:
Quote:
Registration
All ORVs must be currently registered in Massachusetts under MGL c. 90 or MGL c. 90B. The registration plate must be displayed on the back of each vehicle. Contact the Division of Environmental Law Enforcement for registration information: (617)626-1610 or
www.mass.gov/dfwele/dle/elereg.htm
with a link www.mass.gov/dfwele/dle/elereg.htm that only has info about boats, atv's, or snow mobiles
Re: Any places left to ride quads in Ma?
You have to go to the recreation/boat registry which is in worc right near the reg registry. If you are in the parking lot, and walk twords main on that side street its on the second floor of one of the buildings on the right. (bad directions, I know)
