Just picked up a trailer but the dmv told my dad that i had to have insurance on it in order to register it? i never thought you needed insurance on a trailer since its being pulled behind my truck. for what its worth its a 4x8 sub 3000lb gvw trailer. aka harbor freight. can anyone confirm this. i looked on the site and all it said was that i needed to have a bill of sale.
You don't need insurance, you need the RMV1 stamped from your insurance co saying your vehicle towing the trailer has insurance. The RMV sucks.Quote:

last owner's registration OR the trailer's title. not all trailers are titled, so in those cases last registration is a valid substitute.Quote:

alright, i got the trailers title. So i have to go to the insurnace company to get an rmv1 from them? it would be too easy for the dmv to run my plate eh?
the RMV does not have proof that your insurance policy is current - they only know that your policy has not been terminated. you need proof of current insurance, which is done with a stamped RMV1.Quote:
