Re: Peter Kates @ GMD Boston
I had him do the suspension on my old CBR and it was great for good money but he lives in east bum fuck MA which kinda sucks.
Re: Peter Kates @ GMD Boston
Lol yeah but I don't know of anyone closer with the expertise he has also it only took me an hour on the bike to get there from the Ma/Nh border by 495. So thats really not all that bad.
Re: Peter Kates @ GMD Boston
He's getting my shock and forks this winter for rebuild & setup. I look forward to it. Part of me feels like I should have the bike and me there so he can dial it, but I hear he's such a wizard that he can do it w/ just the parts if I tell him what I weigh in my race gear.
Re: Peter Kates @ GMD Boston
I was impressed because when I went I told him my weight and he had to re spring my forks. Then he set up my sag and other stuff but he did it without me on the bike. He just pushed on the handle bars fiddled with some shit and said their ya go.
Later that year I was curious if he actually did anything so I went to have the sag set by measuring and what not but when all was said and done they didn't have to change shit.
Impressed is an under statement.

I'm curious if he'll have to respring my forks. It's supposedly set up for a 180lb rider. I'm about that in my birthday suit, but probably closer to 200 in gear.
Re: Peter Kates @ GMD Boston
I'm 220 neked (I'm working on it) and he told me my CBR 600RR was sprung for little japanese guys lol.
Re: Peter Kates @ GMD Boston
Would highly recommend seeing Peter for all suspension work. He completely setup my Hayabusa, Penske shock, resprung the forks, and dialed in everything. What a huge difference it made in the overall handeling of the bike.

That means that I must live in west BF, because I'm 3 miles west of him.
:plusone: for his work though. He knows his shit.

Re: Peter Kates @ GMD Boston
15 minute ride to Bum Fuck for me...
:plusone: On the best money you can spend on your bike!
Re: Peter Kates @ GMD Boston
Or he is at the track alot. I wanted him to check my Hawk the last TTD but he looked super busy.

Says the man from Newton NH...... 30 min to Boston, 20 Min to Providence, 30 Min to the Cape, 30 min from Whistah, 10 min to Gillette Stadium, 10 min to 100 miles of the best trail riding in NE. Yeah, I'll take the sticks any day.

Boston, where we measure distance in units of time.

Awesome guy to deal with, he knew more about my bike then anyone i've met so far. And for 25bucks, holy crap what a difference in the bike! Its like buttah, much more stable, turn in is effortless but not tippy, tracks better over bumps, etc. I can't even imagine what the man could do with an aftermarket suspension. I'll deffinately be bringing any suspension work I need done to him. :shredder:
going to go down there next week!! my bike just feels like poop and i tried to fiddle with it and i think i made it worst.
For $25 it's a no brainer.
How often are you suppose to change your fork oil too? i hear getting new oil makes a big different too....
Any thoughts or suggestions?? I have an 05 600rr with 10k on it.

About every 5000 miles. Shock oil too. You're due.
Re: Peter Kates @ GMD Boston
PK,
Do you hit people with their shock/fork components if you open them up and see they're WAY past "should have been serviced"? If so, are you very strong? I bought my bike used this season, I swear!

And 2.5 hours from anywhere else... :mope:
Hey Pete, this fall we're gonna work on the SMC. It's just too stiff and skates at the slightest hints of bumps while leaned over. The only place I felt I had any traction was the bowl.
I've been told the stock springs up front are long, and under a lot of preload and that the high speed compression damping is too much. In any case I want to head towards a softer set-up that will hook up at high lean angles. This thing has clearance and I want to use it!
