No, it has a new home. I kinda miss it, and then again I don't...cool looking bike with a very cool sound, and an amazing power curve.
I replaced it with a 2009 Yammy WR450 that will double as a street tard and my trailbike

Yeah, it's been a dream bike of his for a long time. He's going to tear it down and do some kind of a bearing mod for durability. When we first heard of the motor we instantly imagined putting it in his RS250 chasis.
I'm definitely doing some more TTDs this year and may even get back in the instructor's role. I'll keep you posted on dates.

Re: Aprilia MXV super'tard...
So... what makes the MXV a better sumo than an SXV?

Hey, I put around 1,800 miles on it and a couple trackdays...it was more used than some of the other bikes i've sold in the past:wink:
I wanted an SXV ever since I saw it first in person at the 2005 MotoGP race at Laguna Seca. I did like the bike a lot and even though I had none of the major issues I read about, I just never got comfortable with the feeling of not knowing if I'd make it home that day and would need a tow. The thought never crosses my mind with a Yammie:shredder:
We need to get together for a Tard ride this season

Re: Aprilia MXV super'tard...
ya looks very very cool...the front fenders are so weird but the bodywork/exhaust/wheels look so rad.

dont know yet... Aprilia made a bunch of tech advances/improvements with the MXV so it's kinda leading the way with improvements for their off-road line. that pic is the first solid "official" sumo that's been made out of an MXV rather than just experimental frankenstein stuff.
thats all i know right now

i hear ya... i think i'm just used to that feeling after riding a Buell for 4+ years :spit: that bike ran like a champ so i'm hoping i can care for this one in the same way and not have any issues. if i do, F it, dream bike for me too.
yes, agreed on the ride this season! cant wait for another month or so to get back out there

you're not alone, barely anyone likes the front fender. i always thought the lines were great. weird, but pretty cool. i think the new Bergs look very similar now too
i have a few mods to make on the front and rear plastics of mine, just trim them both up a tad, but i'm not into the super-super stubby front fenders you see a lot.

hmm, bearing mod, will have to look that up. only thing i stay focused on is the case sealant and oil/water levels. luckily, mine starts and runs fine but thats another big issue (weak battery, lame starter, bad mapping = headaches)... along with oil change proceedures. very easy to mess up, overfill and end up with an airbox full of oil.
yeah, lots of sweet ideas for that motor in a RR chassis!
great news on the instructor role :shredder: keep me posted either way, i'll schedule for a day your up there.

Found it, 240lbs vs 280+lbs, that right there is HUGE. Still heavier than the other 450s out there, but not by anywhere NEAR as much as the RXV/SXV.

Re: Aprilia MXV super'tard...
yeah, weight def an improvement over the RXV. bet you could shave even more off by ditching the stock exhaust (if its similar to their other off-roaders). the freekin can alone on my SXV is a tank! couldnt believe the difference when i replaced mine with a Silmoto system. even the stock end pipes are heavy... headers felt similar
think i read a half-way decent review of the new MXV in one of the dirt rags recently. they thought it was odd riding a twin and had some issues but thought it had a lot of promise. thats also MX vs older enduro/desert models though. the RXV 550 seems to get a lot of complaints about controlling power and suspension tuning. i hate the rear spring on my SXV, super soft compared to the front. weird setup.
-
Re: Aprilia MXV super'tard...
That's the way my smc was. Soft in the rear. Getting that RECTified as we speak!
-
Re: Aprilia MXV super'tard...
haha, yeah, same here... just not sure if going from 5.6 kg/mm to 5.8 will make the difference i want. luckily Ape rear springs are only like $80
still need to drop off both sets of suspenders to GMD. psyched to be so flat out with work but man is it eating into my bike maint!
-
Re: Aprilia MXV super'tard...
Wow! That must have some sharp linkage. I'm going to an 8.0 or thereabouts.
-
Re: Aprilia MXV super'tard...
huh, 8.0 wow...
yeah, 6.0 - ~6.4 is RR hard for the SXV, i still want it to swallow rough roads and be able to jump shit so i think i will stay a hair under 6.0... so hard to tell without trying but i KNOW the 5.6 stocker just wallows. hate the squat on accel and i've got the pre-load ring down pretty far already :(
-
Re: Aprilia MXV super'tard...
I'd go for the 6.0 if you're wallowing with a lot of preload. Think about how often you'll jump vs how often you corner on pavement and lean towards the more common one.
I jumped the SMC once and I was surprised with how soft it felt when I landed. The bike felt stiff otherwise. 300 lbs is a lot of bike to land!

Re: Aprilia MXV super'tard...
you is a smaaht man... excellent point.
