Truck damaged, just got my estimate...
So long story short the guys removing trees behind my house clipped my truck with their dump truck one morning. I didn't really care, insurance will take care of it. The damage wasn't huge in size, but was pretty bad.
Heres a shitty cell phone pic....

I haven't had a shop give me an estimate yet, I think I'm going to without mentioning insurance just out of curiosity.
Anyway, I just got the estimate back from the adjuster. The total came to just shy of $2,000. It says they're going to replace the tail light (cracked), the bumper (slight dent), the tailgate (slight dent), but REPAIR the quarter panel with the hole ripped through it on the corner?? I thought that was kinda odd. Is that even repairable?
Re: Truck damaged, just got my estimate...
I had my bed fixed not to long ago. I didn't know it but the bed is made up of 3-4 different pieces tac welded together. I thought I was going to get a whole new bed but ended up with just a new side.
Re: Truck damaged, just got my estimate...
F that, the should REPLACE that.

I suppose that might be what they mean by repair... I'm sure they can swap just a side of the bed but I was thinking that would fall under the replacement category. It just doesn't seem like an easy spot to actually "fix" the hole/damage.
Re: Truck damaged, just got my estimate...
They can probably pull/hammer that back into shape, weld it, and the use some filler to straighten things out. It could be fixed and be fine. The adjuster just doesn't want to buy a quarter panel and then paint half the bed.
Re: Truck damaged, just got my estimate...
Now I'm GUESSING here, but that piece is not only huge, but probably an integral part of the bed structure & welded on there, not bolted. I'd likely be cheaper to fix what's on there than cut the old one off, weld a new one on there & paint the whole thing... (though they better paint the whole panel anyway if they're gonna do it right)

yes, what he said
Re: Truck damaged, just got my estimate...
Bring it to YOUR repair shop and get a new estimate and send it to their insurance company. There is no way in hell I would let them put body filler in my vehicle. It's only going to chip and crack later. You have the right to get an estimate from YOUR own repair facility.

:plusone:
They would never get it right if they tried to replace it and you would end up with a bunch of rattles and squeaks.

I agree with this .
Re: Truck damaged, just got my estimate...
Def easier to fix that hole, the entire panel is pinch welded on and would take forever to take off and never go back on right.
