Merry f*cking christmas...yeah right.
If anyone knows of a commercial/industrial/residential drywall construction company who needs a senior estimator/project manager, let me know. My husband is a perfectionist, dedicated, knows his stuff VERY well, hard worker, very punctual and professional. rarely missed any days and I often had to force him to take his vacation days...He has always given countless hours over his regular 45 hours, to be the best at what he does. He has years of experience as much as on the construction site fields, as much as in office using quickbid and other programs. Drywall, framing, acoustic ceilings, etc. He has done many Big Y's, Target, Barnes & Noble, countless colleges/universities, hotels (Howard Johnson, etc.) and so on...
The day before Christmas...my husband was told they have to let him go because the company is not making enough money in this "economy". Thw owner elected to keep the other estimator who has stolen repeatedly from his company, on top of having thousands of dollars lost by not doing his job properly. The owner's sons (who actually try to run the company better than their father) were shocked by his decision and begged him to keep my husband instead but to no success.
If anyone can help with a lead on something...let me know. He was even considering at some point working overseas.

Exactly my thoughts. At least they could have waited until after Christmas vacation is over. I've seen it happening to other guys in the company before and it always enraged me. I think it's heartless!!

The only upside to being canned before x mas is if you have kids, then you're off during x mas vacation.

Well....having a grumpy stressed out husband/daddy around the house is not fun tho....we're trying to keep the house quiet for him but...kids will be kids, vacation time, they want friends over, etc. *sigh*
It's just not easy, that's for sure. :( I really do hope something better will come for him and that we will be ok.

Re: Merry f*cking christmas...yeah right.
not to be insensitive but if he was pulling down over 100k and you had a job...
why do you have no savings???
Even with $2500 mortgage, thats only a weeks pay.

Re: Merry f*cking christmas...yeah right.
I'm having a similar situation here. The day before Christmas eve I was told that the company might be going out of business soon, and I could probably only count on 3 or 4 more paychecks! Talk about a miserable Christmas! This company has made so much money in the last 10 or so years that it is absolutely ridiculous that they don't have anything in the bank. It's not like they spent any money buying new trucks or equipment! I was running a job that made 40,000 in 2wks, and was told to shut it down because they couldn't afford the payroll! I had 4 guys working on the job each making around 40/hr. ???? This wouldn't be so bad if I didn't already have my whole racing season planned around my income from this job and my access to a truck!! Anyway, good luck to your husband in finding work, I know I'll be looking soon too!

Re: Merry f*cking christmas...yeah right.
my wife got laid off dec 1st. thank god for severance pay. i hope she finds work soon as my job has cut back to 32 hrs a week. happy new year.
-
Re: Merry f*cking christmas...yeah right.
I don't think he's getting severance pay (never heard that term before, not sure what it is....some type of money to compensate for laying you off?) but he is getting his 1 week vacation pay, not gonna change the situation much in the end. We're so afraid of loosing our home if he doesnt' find something else soon. :(
I feel for all of you guys. I wish you good luck, as well. I hope these hard times will come to an end soon but judging from what we hear...it's not gonna happen this upcoming year either.

Re: Merry f*cking christmas...yeah right.
My girlfriend also got laid off the Sunday before Christmas. They called around 1:00 and said not to bother coming in on Monday.

If you believe the media, you have at least a year or two of not making your mortgage payment before you have any chance of being kicked out.

Re: Merry f*cking christmas...yeah right.
Well got to put a little positive input in this thread. I lost my job Wednesday before Christmas. Just had an interview for a job with an Audi deal and got it working on cars. Finally putting my education to work doing what I love.
Hope it works out for you guys. If you job hunt like a nut case you can find something

Is this is true...and I hope it is...that would be a great relief knowing we have a little bit of time to get out of this situation.

Thank you so much, I will forward this to him. He might know some of these companies already. He has worked in NH, MA, CT and a little bit in NY.
Thanks everyone else for the encouraging words. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Re: Merry f*cking christmas...yeah right.
well if you have to pitch in to put food on the table there is always the oldest profession around to fall back on .

Re: Merry f*cking christmas...yeah right.
I am sorry. I got laid off in September and found a job in November. There is always unemployment, not much $$ but will help with putting food on the table.
