Southwick mx national 7/9/16 camping
I got the idea for this because Doug (Carsick) is planning to spend Friday 7/8 at my place here in Southwick, MA with his son, and attend the national the next day.
As the title states, the Southwick national is coming back on July 9 this year. Unfortunately, there is no camping at the track. On the other hand, I live about three or 4 miles away from the track on a good size piece of land, and any Nesr members with more than 50 posts are welcome to camp on my property on the Friday night before the race, and/or the Saturday night after, as well (I think there is amateur racing the next day?) Tents, trailers, and RVs welcome. There are not too many neighbors around, and the ones that are within earshot are cool and are used to the occasional explosion or dirt bike ripping around (LOL).
Parking for the national isn't cheap, so if we have a few people that want to do this, we could possible carpool and save some hassle and money there, too.
Post up here and PM me for address if interested...

Aw geeze, did you have to go posting that? Not good for my self esteem.

Nice video! Watching a top rider on a sand track has always been a thing of beauty. They make something so damn hard look so damn easy.
The website says parking is only ten bucks this year, so that's good. I strongly encourage anyone who has never been to a national outdoor motocross to attend, even if you don't ride dirt bikes and don't intend to. These are the best mx riders in the world, and tv doesn't do justice to what it's like when they go by at warp speed, close enough where the wind from it can hit you, as well as the sand, smells, and noise. It's really something to behold...not crazy expensive for what you get, either. Seems like there is no guarantee that this event will automatically go back to being an every year thing, like it was for something like 40 years up until a few years ago, so if you want to see it "sometime", this Saturday may be the most convenient chance you're gonna get...
I can't wait!

Love that clip right at the 2:00 mark of Jimmy Decotis hammering thru the braking bumps into Buckley Berm. The track isn't even whooped up yet in the video, either, to the extent it will be at the national, and they do that for 35 minutes, twice, not counting practice or qualifying. Looks like they were messing around on a practice day in the video...
Speaking of Decotis, I watched him racing the last NESC event at Southwick two weekends ago. Kid was killing it!

i dug that ~2min mark as well, shows a ton of control in a few short seconds. deceiving until you actually ride it.
Re: Southwick mx national 7/9/16 camping
Sha! The riding in thi clip is mind blowing, as is the track when you first ride it.

Intimidating is the word I would choose. I want to go back now that I know like a frog's hair more than I did before.

Great racing today, that was awesome!

Consider me recalibrated for how fast a human being can pilot a motorcycle over disastrously rutted and whooped sand. Looks and sounds WAYYY more hairy in person! Thanks for the invite Gary, the boy and I had fun.

That was a great day of racing, also glad the rain held off.

Mcelrath binned it hard on his 2nd to last turn, last lap of the last moto of the whole day! Fighting for third, I think. Concussion/AC shoulder separation, bruised lung, 7 broken ribs, surgery:

That recalibration is quite the awakening, no? It is mind blowing.

Yeah, seeing it and knowing it's possible is not equal to me trying it.
