J Day Offroad Series - Round 1 - Southwick GP I ~THE WICK~
SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY
Gonna be a shit show, boys
DEFINITELY considered bailing, I don't know why we aren't
Predicted weather, 100% chance of heavy rain, 58 degrees, up to 1" of rain
Those that have done a bunch of these, will they cancel it? Are we idiots for still trying to go? I already have a hotel room and pre-registered. This will be my daughters FIRST race....
I feel like we are super committed, but man I think its gonna suck...

The sand is way better wet, in my opinion. You can actually drive in it.

Track preview is up.

Looks like they changed a bit of the woods. The extreme section looks fairly short and easy too.

I bailed this morning. Looks like a bunch of others did too. 12 person field in our class. Usually 40. Lol

That sucks. The lap times were crazy long in our group.

Also, for whatever reason, they purged all the DNF's (there were like 15?) So it was closer to 30 bikes in our class

Ehhh, thanks, pretty poor showing from me, but I just couldn't do it.
We will not be attempting a J Day in the Rain again. My poor kids got THRASHED.

Re: J Day Offroad Series - Round 11 - Southwick GP I ~THE WICK~
Didn't see this til just now. I was there, ran CVet.
Just insane.....
One moto. No MX track, took a u-turn where you would enter the track, and went back along the fence into the woods.
I managed 2 laps.
I actually had a killer first lap some how, was 5th of 24. Was like, say what?
Second lap, I got stuck 3 times.
First was in a pond (of the many), just had to pick a line, hit a rut and almost went over the bars. Had to lift bike out of the rut.
Heading down the hill a bit, saw a guy bury the front tire, and was slowly going end-over. That was strange to watch.
Second was on one of the up hills. Got stuck in a rut pretty good. Took a minute to get out and going again with a push from someone.
Third was bad, also on an up-hill. Bike was buried. Couldn't get it out of the hole. Then finally did, and made a new hole. People were taking a bypath line on the uphill side, which seemed like gold to where I was. After fighting for a couple minutes, decided to go help another guy who then helped me out too.
Had mud in my throttle tube somewhere that was making that stick. Couldn't see, out of energy, just eased out the rest of the lap trying to catch my breath.
Finished 13 of 24.
Was glad it was done at that point.
Basically washed off a bit in the rain and the puddles/rivers in the parking lot.
Forgot to bring a towel. Trying to get changed and dried into the car without making a massive mess was interesting too. haha.
Felt like a bit of a waste, but was an experience anyway.

Re: J Day Offroad Series - Round 11 - Southwick GP I ~THE WICK~
I knew I wasn't going to make all the rounds and chase points, so it was hard to motivate myself to go Sunday morning. One of the advantages/disadvantages of living 40 minutes away.
Something similar happened at the winter wick they had several years ago. It ended up being like 60° and sunny and huge ruts started developing that swallowed bikes whole.
Crazy that lap times were 10 minutes without the mx track. Definitely not sad I missed it. Lol

Damn man, my hat's off to you for completing three laps, that is impressive. After picking my 500 straight up out of 2 holes WITH help, I said I just couldn't do it. I knew if I swamped it in a third hole I'd be done.
We really should have cancelled, but I reserved the hotel months in advance. I won't be doing that again. Its a 9 hour round trip drive for us....

embarrassing video, as I'm a garbage rider, but this gives you an idea how bad the struggle was. I edited out minutes of me digging out even with help.
First bath is at 1:00, second is at 2:05

Did you see the pics they posted of them fixing stuff? One of the ruts was massive. A guy was able to stand in it.

Unfortunately I don't have facebook.
I saw bikes literally getting swallowed up though as well as many bikes lying off the trail on their side.
I would be pretty surprised if a few bikes didn't get blown up that day.
Kids bikes got murdered. I watched so many minis just lock the rear right the fuck up because of debris. I was at the finish line looking for my kids and I saw three come in in a row and lock up right in the timing gate and cause a traffic jam. The whole thing was a shit show.
