thats not it at all. we are vets because weve learned from our mistakes. mistakes that you havent made yet. youre smart to wear your gear and as long as you keep that up you will eventually make some of the mistakes weve made and LIVE to learn from them.
yes we were all new at one time and we all went through what you are going through right now. its an initiation to motorcycling and most of all HERE![]()
you do have an advantage that most newbies that we harass dont have. youve ridden dirtbikes. you know that they are a different animal to sportbikes and that will help.
just remember 4 important things:
1: DONT PANIC!!!!
2: look where you want to go and the bike will follow (goes well with 1)
3: turn bars left to go right (and vise versa) NO JOKE! it sounds stupid i know but try it and you will see that anything over like 15MPH and this is how you turn a bike.
4: always remember rule #1
PS- ALL my family live in Newport. my cousin is even a firefighter down there![]()

yeah I know the the shit talking is coming that's cool but steriotyping because of the bike I got that's different if I would have got an 96 ninja no one would have said a word but I appreciate what you said and I understand it all.. Just like I said I live on these forums and I learn as much as I can from vets, I have read the motorcyclest guides for dummys twice front to back, and my MSF course is in a few weeks and even I have the bike before the class I will never take it out of the housing area until I have completed that course. I'm a very safe person who likes to have fun but I have to much to loose to be stupid ( my 3 year old son) I hope one day to be in your place ( the vets )
unfortunatley stereotyping happens because a VERY high % of people fit into these stereotypes. you know: dumb blondes, unemployed blacks, mayonaise and white people, mexicans and border jumping, rice eating chinese.... did i miss any?![]()
anyways, just be smart and have fun. when/if you get the need to open it up and drive like an asshole... take it to the track. youll do 160 on the highway eventually, youll pull wheelies because it fun, do stoppies because theyre fun. because thats what happens when you ride a sportbike. just try to make it as minimal as possible. and ignore the "i was a stupid sportbiker today" thread i started last weekthat doesnt happen often... i dont know what came over me

OH! and welcome aboardyou should try and plan a weekend at the track and watch the races. youll meet lots of NESRans there and be around lots of bikes

.... cept for the racist shit, he's a biggot KKK honkey... he doesn't realize not all white people like mayo
As far as riding w/ people from this board, we have riders of all different skill levels... i started riding w/ veteran riders on here about a month after getting my first street bike back in '04. Three months later i was doing trackdays... now, a year & 1/2 after that, i'm racing
It's amazing what i've learned from the people on this site in such a short time.
As for the bike you're getting... well... you pretty much already got yer bike so i'm not gonna say you shouldn't get it, i'll just say respect it & have fun. Seems like you already have that covered though & have a good head on your shoulders so hofully the generic "don't get a brand spankin new 600" speech wouldn't apply.
Lookin forward to seein ya on some group rides.

back of the pack ha! where do you guys go to ride out here?? Because mine isn't "licenced" in california you don't need licence or lights or anything just registration I wonder if the 5-0 will bust me even if my bike is reg out of state
There's no legal riding in RI but if you want to ride in Mass, you'll need to get a mass yellow plate (ATV plate). My bike is street plated so I just ride to wherever I want to go riding and ride, not legal but tolleratedOriginally posted by Jenks

First, welcome to NESR!
Second, thanks for serving in the forces!
Finally, don't take too much to heart that these mugs. You seem to have a good approach to this new (to you) arena of motorcycling...
In my opinion, the 600RR is not only a great starter, but it's a machine that'll serve you well for at least a few years. You'll be hardpressed to 'outgrow' what it has to offer any time soon...
The biggest problem I see with FNG's is that they get over their heads trying to keep up with the crowd. Again though, you seem to be level headed about it. Keep that attitude and take in all you can from experienced, responsible riders. The best educational tool for m/c'ing is time. So stick around...
