My boy won his class, I locked in a solid last place. Great day though. They cut my second moto down to 15 min cause the track went to absolute shit. My tire popped off the rim again though which is a bummer. Didn't.t notice and finished the race. I went over the bars second moto too. Only time I crashed in the race. Was absolutely demolishing my holeshots, I came into turn 1 third the first moto.
hell yeah! nice work, fellaswas this all MX track or mix of track/woods?

on the tire popping off again, was it from too much traction with spikes? i used to have issues with tires rotating on the rim due to low pressure, super grip, and weak rim locks. not sure what sort of rim locks you're running but might want to upgrade to something with more bite, that's what i did ... unless you're on Tubliss then disregard.
EDIT: my issues were before going Tubliss

That's cool. I always wanted to do the winter wick when they had it there, but never had the tires.
I did go watch one year and it was awesome. It happened to be like 60° and sunny that day and it turned into rut city.
Congrats to your son.

Blizzardcross at Hemonds MX 2-19-23 with the big KTM!!! My first winter race. Moto 1 was easy compared to a J-day, moto was real tough with a lot of mud. None of it is impressive riding, I'm just glad to enter and finish. FFWD to 7:10 to see me eat it over the bars! Guy in the blue pants was awesome to race with! I got last, but all smiles. A day in Feb doing some moto with the fam is a good day. My son got 1st in 50CC which is pretty awesome. (found out we never put a go pro mount on his new helmet).
That was awesome to watch!
I agree, that course looked rough to ride…hard to really get any momentum; and that GoPro angle doesn’t show justice. You did well keeping it moving. Agree, that you have to redefine what a good race is, and a day like that where you finish is a good day! Thanks for sharing!
You must be a proud dad
Wtf is happening to the tire with it falling off the bead. Is the tire pressure super low or something? We have to be missing the root cause here

Im running 14psi? Maybe the tube is too big? I have ordered a motion pro rim lock hoping that helps.
I really wish I could get in better shape so I could ride harder, I just get gassed and bad arm pump if I push too hard. Wish I started doing this in my 20s, not my 40s.
Thanks for the kind words though! I hope to find a few more of these winter races. We will get the bikes out on the lake this spring too which should be a good time.
14psi is plenty of pressure; gotta be something else. Hopefully the rim lock fixes it
But man, that fitness part is something people don’t talk enough about; but good reminder to work on that for the next race. Plenty you can do though. Paul recommends resistance bands, you can do gym cardio and weights, or just ride more. I would add a hydration strategy too.
In a strangely sadistic way, an exhausting day on a dirt bike is far more satisfying than a day at home or work. The older we get, the more we appreciate it…I draw the line at injuries; as long as nobody gets hurt, it was a good day.
Looking forward to more wacky winter riding madness! Makes me miss a little bit of the east coast

For training endurance wise I've taken to riding at a reasonable steady pace, say 75-80%, for long periods of time with minimal stops. The area I ride at most often you can loop the trails together in a continuous loop so I try to link them together with a short stop in the parking area, or no stop is even better, for roughly 2-3 hours at a go, roughly 45 min per long loop. These are also trails where there is nothing overly technical to get through/over/around, relatively quick flowy trails. Goal is to keep the heart rate elevated for the extended period of time and get the body used to doing this. The technical stuff can be practiced another time and in shorter intervals. Once the physical endurance is there the technical stuff can get easier. This is usually done when riding by myself as it makes it easier to not have to be concerned with whether anyone needs a break.
Off the bike training I would assume similar extended periods of elevated heart rate with minimal breaks couldn't hurt. Treadmill, Elliptical, rower etc.
Finally edited my sons video!
gotta catch up on these vids tonight, been on the road too much ... that tire fail is odd. you sure it was seated proper? bead looked even all around? stiff tires can be tricky sometimes.
