drag race hillclimbs

We went to pine ridge / upperdeck in Barre today, higins powersports was having a drag race hillclimb event , for ATV and dirtbikes.
They had monstertruck rides and spyder demo rides too.

Bob and I entered the races, not an AMA sanctioned pro event by any means, just an amature local fun type of thing.

we signed our life away



After we registered , they let us walk the hill .




then we lined up for practice



they had a follow the leader sighting lap



then you got 2 practice runs












Bob won the first race er I mean practice

for practice they run you 2 at a time but not necessarily in your catagory, so bob and I got to race each other in our practice runs. He was on his 200 2 stroke and I was on the wr250R

on the 2nd practice, you line up in the opposite lane







there was a step up jump in the middle, I hit it wide open in 2nd and got about 2 feet off the ground which is a lot for a guy that doesn't jump I try to keep as close to the ground as possible.





I won the second one

They didn't have a 200 catagory so bob had to race against 250 2stroke mx bikes




I was up against 250 4 stroke MX bikes , I didn;t stand a chance but it was fun any way , it was a double elimination event so you got atleast 2 races.


I had him off the line and for the first few feet



but then he pulled away from me and I couldn;t catch him



My second race I got this guy off the line too and had him for a few feet but being down on HP he too left me behind .


There were only 5 bikes in my catagory, but someone has to be last, I had a blast though.

Bob had a bye run for his second race.





and because there were only 3 guys in his class he got a 2nd place trophey for his shelf.


for what it was, a small town event , it was fun .

Are you saying that age has a direct correlation to one's propensity to doing wheelies?

What does propensity mean?

I am saying that age has a lot to do with people doing wheelies when its not necessarily appropriate to do so .

Up a hill, on the gas, twice the traction as the others = Wheelie

we did have fun , and wheelies are more accepted off road, but perhaps not neccesarily on the sighting lap.

and to answer the question , yeh age would play a factor on the decision on when to execute the " well placed wheelie".


if they run this event again , I'll try to post up ahead of time, it would be good to get more people into the various classes.

you see a fast guy on a crazy two-stroke (600cc+) with hair down to his ass out there? his names Joe Lindquist, his daughter Shayna races too, guy is insane on anything with two wheels. hung out on Sat with him, wished i could have made the event, looks like fun.

no, but I did see a guy on a right out of the box 2004 left over kawasaki 500 2stroke, he was 61 yrs old and was only there to get some motor break in time before he set the bike up for ice racing .

I went to this event last year it is lots of fun ..... run what you brung hillclimb.

no, no beard , but he did seem like a nice guy.

the run what ya brung is great , but hard to sometimes break up the classes accordingly . Like I said I was paired against bikes with a lot more HP than mine, but it was still a great way to spend a sunday .

its too bad they don;t run it more often , kind of like a "street night " at epping drag way. you could go and do grudge matches for bragging rights rather than tropheys.

they also had a rep from full throttle magazine and the telegram and gazzette there. ( I assume it would be in the local section if at all )
I'll have to look in next months issue to see if we made it in .

I have been to monson, infact I think they are having an event in a couple weeks, sunday the 3rd I think .

I do okay climbing hills,, but I would never attempt monson on a wr250r
