Any tips on how to get the factory shine back on plastics after it's been scuffed??
My YFZ had some scratches and I took some sandpaper to them today. I wetsanded it starting with 400 grit and worked my way up to 1500 until the scratches were gone. Now that it's smooth, how can I get that factory shine back? I thought I could just armor all it and it's be good enough but I'm not happy with it.
Yeah I know I'm being a little fussy with a dirt toy... but that's the way i am![]()
Thanks

Did you try honda polish?
I know there is a product out there for that purpose, I can't remember the name but I have seen it in dirt bike magazines. I think its plastic shine or something.![]()
I have used a heat gun to take out the white stress marks in dirtbike plastics, works pretty well, but it doesnt' bring back the shine.
no wait, found it

I've tried some of the standard spray cleaners and shine stuff and while they help a little, it's not what I'm looking for. After you wetsand, the finish is gone so it needs compound or something to bring it back.. sorta like wetsanding paint, it needs to be buffed before it will shine again.
I had ordered the plasitcs renew kit from the dealer a day or so ago but I've also heard the results are not all that great. I'll have to wait ans see for myself on that one.
Thanks for the tips![]()

If you already wetsanded into the thousand grits, some of the novus polish should be cool.

PC Racing Plastic Renew
It's a lot of work, but I did it once to a KLR and it came out looking really good.
Mothers clay and Showtime.
Mothers Glaze and scratch filler.
Mothers Pure Carnuba.
This will bring it up to Tully shine standards.

I think I could bring it back. I detail my Ducati all the time and get that shit outta my paint. I also do my wind shield. I think my bike looks pretty good.
Lemme know so we cane set up a date if you already havent taken care of it.

At this point, I think I'm just going to ride the piss out of it for the rest of the season and pimp it out yo with some new plastics over the winter. I want the OE plastics but I may change a few of the colors around anyways, then put the 50th anniversary decals back on.
I did get a plastics renew kit and it works OK but it took almost 8 coats to get a shine

sidenote: did you try mop n glo?
No, I didn't try it. In fact I gave up on trying to make them look good again. The plastic renew is ok but not great, all it really is is some sort of clear coat/paint that covers up the dullness. Fine for the rear fenders (they get trashed by my riding boots anyways) but I went one step farther for the fronts, should have no problems nowOriginally posted by somestrangeguy
sidenote: did you try mop n glo?Sad the stickers are half the cost of the new fender..
