Do you hafta reset the belt code on those every 500 miles like the 700 Brutes/Cats? If so, do you still have the little plug they're supposed to give you for that?

I just ordered up a little winch/mount for mine yesterday. $160 shipped for a little Superwinch 2k lb and mount to lift the plow, or $130 for a handle to lift the plow manually. Seemed like a no brainer.

Next week is ordering plow time......Moose, Warn, Cycle Country, Swisher, Tusk? ARG

moose, i've had two and they are solid. here's something to think about as well. i've had both manual and winch powered. i prefer manual, faster and less to break in the middle of a storm. denniskirk.com has good prices.

    Here we go!

I still don't buy into the whole 'manual' plow thing. I've had my cable snap ONCE in the entire time I've had it. It cost less than a coupla bucks to fix, took about 20 minutes and I lost all of about 6" of cable as a result. I keep a handful of appropriate sized cable clamps on the bike now as a precaution. Faster? By what? A fraction of a second? You'll hate the manual if you gotta raise & lower it a lot...

The 2K winch is a bit small in my opinion...

I have the Warn set-up. Love it. 60" blade, I don't lose any clearance with the brackets, off or on in a coupla minutes. 5 position angle w/ adjustable skids. It's help up to it's share of abuse...

yeah i'm still beating that drum. i snapped a cable once and it is an easy fix. i'm more concerned with the winch taking a shit in the middle of a storm. i had a tendency to over lift it and drag the cable tie threw the rollers or try to lift the blade before backing up overheating the winch.

    Re: Quad shopping?

I have no use for the winch other than plowing since I don't ride it on trails, but the $130 for a god damn handle and cable seemed like a ripoff compared to getting even an underpowered winch to handle that duty.

    Re: Quad shopping?

For me, the quad is not a necessity during a storm, I'm only going to use it as cleanup and to plow a path to the wood pile. I have the front end loader for the real work.

I'm going to unspool the winch and replace the shit-ton of steel cable on there with shitty thick nylon rope for plow duty. No more kinks!

    Re: Quad shopping?

Thanks! I'm working on it. Between work, and scammers, it has proven tough to pull a deal together. The weekend is almost here, though, so hopefully I can make some progress. A sincere "Thank You" to everybody here. I gained a lot of knowledge very quickly.

BTW, had a chance to watch a Grizzly in action last weekend at Clough, and that thing looks like it rides like a Cadillac. I hear a lot of good things about them, other than that they are a Yamaha...

Make sure you get the composite roller leads too! If you're JUST gonna use the rope for plowing, make sure you get the plow specific stuff...

Or, I could get braided nylon rope and just run it through the metal rollers....can't see how that would be an issue?

The Grizzly 550 EFI/EPS is probably the best all around utility ATV I've ridden. Great power, light and great ground clearance. OH and I like Yamaha!

Check back in the middle of the winter with an update
I've found plowing to be VERY abusive on the winch and it sucks to have to try and fix/jerry rig it in the middle of a storm

Not Cadillac, more like Land Rover

06 660 Grizzly with winch and 10 feet of simulated synthetic rope on the end of the cable spool to pull 48" Warn blade and it works great and is a BLAST to plow!!

And I can keep up with those damn 2 stroke bug foggers at Clough....until the bead breaks that is.

The rope will fray unless you polish the fairhead. I ditched the rope and went with a braided nylon tie strap, hand made. It's about 4' and works well just adding it to the end of the cable let's me remove it if I get into trouble on the trails.

    Re: Quad shopping?

I can tell ya one f*ing thing ... Craigslist Sucks !!!!

If its too good to be true ........... IT IS !!

I called on two Kawi's 700's one from Conn. and one from NH .

Turned out they were both from divorces.... and BOTH were from out of state !!

One was in WV and other had the same sad story from some other damn state !

If I don't come across one from a friend ........ I'll buy a new one and get raped from a dealer instead of some shumuck !!!

Other than that ..... I don't have any strong feelings one way or the other about Craigslist .

    Re: Quad shopping?

I have had great luck with CL for dirt bikes, but when shopping for quads, it was much different for some reason. Tonight, I was finally able to give some of my money away - I bought a 2006 Yamaha Kodiak for $3,200. It had all of the features I was looking for, and wasn't *too* beat up. It was definately much tougher than shopping for a dirt bike, though.
Thanks to all for the quick education!

    Re: Quad shopping?

I called on a BF in Spencer, MA today, and the guy sent me a couple of pics. It looked rough, and he said that he had just blown a ball joint (CV joint?). $4,300. Then the Kodiak deal came together just as my daughter and I were headed to a dealership. In a year or two, I will know if I made the right decision. In all of my hunting, I did not come across 1 used 4wd ATV that was still shiney. They have all pretty much broken brush at some point during their ownership. At least the kodiak did not have any cracked or broken plastic. That stuff can get expensive! I have read that the BF machines are odd, in that they are painted, like a street bike. I wonder if that holds up better?
