Because it has been proven as a tough road that typically winds up with the racer having significantly less money in their pockets than when they started and not really being too competitive (i.e. able to fight for the title). Tough to compete with the money and resources that manufacturers can throw at a race program.

i wont argue that. BUT, privateers dont last very long if they dont pick up a sponsor willing to fit most of the bills.
my point was, after watching CR22 do it and the toll it takes on you, im not sure why any top rider would try it. be an owner or a rider. you cant be both.
the behind the scenes stuff takes so much time and that time should be used for recovery and training, not managerial shit. its even more difficult to ride aggressively if all youre worried about is "how much is this costing me?"

You're leaving out the reward for success.
Making it on your own is the classic David vs. Goliath - risky and tough...sure, but oh so rewarding if you get it right.
For the record, you absolutely can be a rider and an owner at the same time. It might not be up to your risk/reward standard but it's very feasible.
Think small business owner vs. safe(ish) corporate cube job.

speaking of privateers, psyched to see Jimmy back in the 450 class. and on this topic of footing the bill, check out his comment at ~1:58

i see your point and i dont disagree, but CR22 was doing it for years. it was amazing to see him last as long as he did. you could tell immediately that a huge weight was lifted from his shoulders when Yamaha picked him up. He was focused, energized, and was riding harder and with a purpose. he was a different rider when he could be focused on just being the best rider he could be.
im not saying that it cant be done, its just rare. in fact, i cant think of anyone that has.
its more like a small business owner opening a shop right next to the big corporation that sells the same product.

Honda released update.
Compound fracture of left forearm. More bluntly; that means stuff on the inside was on the outside.

That was a nasty crash. He is lucky not to have something worse. I didn't even want to watch it the 3rd and 4th time they replayed it.
I've seen my arm bone poking through my skin. It F#$% hurts and when you get loaded onto a back board there is no place your arm wants to lay like that. I had the guy in the ambulance hold my arm up in the air until the drugs kicked in. I feel bad for Ken. That will take him out for the season. I really don't see anyone left in the field that can give Dungey a run at the championship.
Anderson throwing a punch at Friese in the tunnel to the pits was a dumb move for a kid in the championship points race. Friese was the one that ran into him in the heat. This is kind of a deja vu as Friese did the same thing to Peik last year and got pummeled like a prize fighter for the move.
Send cash... I need a track day

The chances of Honda getting a #1 plate on their new bike are over. Feel bad for KR94, that was a nasty hit.
I stand by my comment about CR22....there are more deserving riders of a factory ride.. sorry.
