I heard 3 instructors & 2 students crashed yesterday, all in the blue (fast) group as far as I can remember.
I was in the Yellow Group and I don't remember a single yellow flag the whole time let alone a red flag in our group. I don't remember anyone crashing in the Red group either.
I saw the bike on fire but did not see the crash. We had a 90 minute delay as a result of the crash so we walked the track (which was awesome!). AFAIK he just lowsided in 11 and the bike slid to the outside, it ended up on fire in the grass between 11 and the Nascar oval. There was a ~75ft gouge in the pavement that his bike left.
The fire was like 5-6 feet high but it went out almost instantly when the emergency workers got a fire extinguisher on it.
That is pretty crappy news, I didn't see him walk to the ambulance but I was told he walked to the ambulance without assistance and most everyone thought he wasn't badly injured.. apparently whoever said that was full of it unless his lung collapsed in the ambulance or something.
If he crashed in 11, my guess is that he slid into the curbing?
That would break a few ribs...
And it might launch the bike to cause the fire?
Again... all guesses. I know nothing for sure about this.
Galen is a super nice guy! Hope he's alright.
I definitely feel his pain as I too broke a bunch of ribs. The docs and nurses were shocked I didn't collapse a lung or rupture a spleen as that is apparently common with many rib fractures.![]()
Everyone was saying it was someone named Galen yesterday..
I don't know everyone so I can't say for sure if it actually was.
wish him a quick recovery for sure... rib injuries are NOT fun... i've never broken a rib but i've had plenty of bruised ribs/muscle tissue... took me about 6-8 months to fully recover last time i pulled a muscle in my abdomen.

The bike was an FZR400, and I saw the scene just after the crash. He was down but eventually got the top 1/2 of his leathers off and stood up with help after a few minutes, and walked with assistance into the ambulance. Several people said that it was Galen. I didn't know who he was until people told me,
I was going to post this but felt awkward given I don't know who he is personally and was hearing from a 3rd party that it was in fact Galen.
Galen (or Galen stunt double) - sorry for the crash and hope you get better soon!
A few thoughts on the track day itself, I'll let this stay on thread and post in other thread...
