Realized We have all the comforts of home at NH and NJ. At NY right now, not so much. So I'm amping up the [car] camping prep.
- bringing the cargo van, canopy, something to put on the ground under the bike.
- bought one of those thermoelectric Coleman coolers off CL used for $50 because our home fridge broke. So I'm bringing that. The instructions say not to run it for more than four hours with the engine off so Ill unplug it.
- A sailing trick is to fill a gallon milk jug or two 80-90% full and freeze them. keeps for a long time, doesn't get everything wet, and you have drinking water.
- Bringing an iPad for interwebz. Also need to bring a laptop for the QStarz software. I. Can recharge the iPad in the car, had to get a small inverter for the PC as I don't have a car charger for it.
- Also bringing my jump starter as another battery source to run the cooler or charge electronics.
- bringing a bicycle (probably an ebike) to get to the facilities.
- Planning to bring a two burner Coleman camp stove to make coffee. Have a French Press which works well.
- thinking about stocking up on food so I can just stay there. So, Bacon.
- Bringing a bicycle foot pump for tires.
- don't know what the situation is on Mosquitoes but I need a plan, they suck. Literally and figuratively.
So, what am I missing? Or have other suggestions?
Oneonta is only about 15 min away. its got everything a town would have. walmart, lowes, chain restaurants etc (i passed a suzuki dealer also). so if you forget anything you should be able to get it in town. there is a Holiday inn (express?) there as well if campings not your thing. from the NYST website theres a B&B or an Inn of some sort close by as well.
theres not really any grass to speak of so camping in a tent, while doable, is going to be on crushed slate. bring an air mattress.
not sure if any of this helps.

After thinking about it some more I looked for a DC charger for my laptop. $15 delivered, so just ordered one off eBay. DC-DC chargers are quite a bit cheaper than the AC-DC laptop chargers.

If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.
Making my own canopy: bringing a tarp, sticks, string, zip tie one end of the tarp to the roof rack.
Thanks for the idea about freezing jugs of water!
Long range forecast looking good for us on June 2,3.
This is going to be one of those, "it is what it is" type of trackdays.
I'm sure lots of things will pop up and we'll have to make lots of on the fly decisions. Hopefully everyone keeps a good attitude and reminds themselves that even a bad day at the track is better than a good day at work (or home mowing the lawn for the Sunday date)
