When we ran it with STT the last time, they used a bus-stop style chicane about 2/3 the way down the long back straight, it worked flawlessly. I thought it was a blast too (kinda like the flip flop they run @ Donnington). It's a shame people keep saying Armco is an issue there, it's simply not true, especially for TD use. If you tried racing there it might be another story.
Dave and the STT crew do a phenomenal job of pointing out the areas you should take at 9/10ths (think of it like T3 or T8 at NHMS). I did not come across a single attendee over the 2 days (South and Full) I have ridden at Monti who thought safety was a concern.
Compared to Loudon, it's a walk in the park.
+1 on the TD and 9/10ths
I was behind guy who got lost going up the hill before the blind left hand kink. As we came out of the tight chicane and entered the right he went out to the outside apex and held that line. Just after the apex he rode into the grass at about 70. He came within 5' of that protective barrier. Good thing he did not hit the breaks or else he would have been chomping on some metal. If people are aware of these potential zone I would like to believe that some reserve is maintained.
I like safe people and to keep people safe on a track day. I know Scottie is there with me. Who else can we have fun with.

My opinion is this: Monticello is every bit as safe as NHMS, if not more so. Regardless of which venue you are at, it is the rider's responsibility to ride within their ability and to know which areas are "safe" to test their limits if they choose to do so. It is the TD org's responsibility to educate the riders of which areas they feel are better suited to 9/10ths riding, such as we (and other orgs) do at NHMS by pointing out the dangers of T3, T8, etc... sometimes going so far to limit passing in these zones in certain, or all groups.
The same can be said for Monti, as more TDs are run, both the organizations in charge and the participants will gain familiarity with the track, and the areas they can, and should not, push their limits in.

STT has a group rate at the Lodge at Rock Hill. I'll be there, but have yet to see the place and can't vouch for cleanliness, dead hooker storage/disposal, etc...

Thanks Mike, The Lodge looks nice but much more expensive then the cheaper options, I was quoted $252 for the 2 nights before discounts but I imagine a discounts would be around 10% off.
There is an Econo Lodge and a Super 8. Both around $60 -$70 per night. I stayed at one of these last year, kinda dumpy. Neither is exactly the Ritz Carlton but it is Moticello NY.

I read a couple yahoo reveiws on the the econo and super 8, seems like they may have ample dead hooker storage and probably needle disposal in each room.

Finao...you can split the room with duc dave and i. it will greatly reduce all our costs.
dave said the room was like $225 for sat/sun nite so with 3 of us thats like $75 pp, you dont have to be a math major to figure out thats cheaper than 1 night at a roach motel.

You've never ridden Donington so shut the fuck up. BTW it only has 2 n's also. :-)Originally Posted by scottieducati

Brian and I have a room at the Lodge. We can share with another. I have an AeroBed...very comfortable...just bring a sleeping bag. The Lodge is supposed to be fairly nice and it's close to the track. Cost should be about about $75.00 for both nights...
