I have come to realize that the factory seat on my bike is really slick when wearing leather pants/suit im planning on picking up a second oem seat and stripping it down to the pan and want to put a higher friction foam on it. does anyone have any suggestions? is this something i can just pick up by the sq.ft. at Home Depot?? thanks

if its the factory seat then you know its not the foam that's the problem right? its the vinyl cover. you can get it reupholstered with a different texture cover that offers more grip.

Just get one of these and put it on yourself. I had one on my old CBR and the grip was night and day difference.

Go to a sporting goods store like Dick's and get the soccer goalie glove spray. You'll hold.
my concern with just putting a cover on it is that ill spend the $ and it wont be much better than it is now. whereas i know if i just race foam an oem seat pan my ass isnt gonna move.

I am confused. What are you more concerned about traction or padding/comfort? If you want both then look at having the seat reupholstered. They can form it to your ass and give it better grip using a different material. Worth the money IMHO.

Is this a street or track bike?

street bike... more concerned with traction really. my ass goes numb and cant feel it after a couple hrs anyway lol

The problem with using race foam is that it's very thin and made for a race tail section, that is very smooth where the foam gets applied, and contoured for differently. The stock seat pan is uneven and has holes and such in it, made for thick foam.
I would get it reupholstered. You can buy a cover and do it yourself, or take/ship it somewhere and get a more comfortable foam, or even a gel insert.
the comfortability isnt the issue. i just need more friction on the seat and am wary about buying a $100 seat cover only to find its made of the same or similar stuff and doesnt fix my traction issue

go to an auto upholstery shop and see what they have. that way you don't spend the money before seeing what you're getting.

Tank grips. Use your legs to hold yourself in place.
What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.

I've never heard of this problem before. I want to be able to move around on my seat on a bike with ease. Only bike where I want grip is the dirt bike. You could check out what material they manufacture dirt bike gripper seat covers out of.

Even though you have to check your man-card at the door, Jo-ann fabrics has a bunch of vinyls you can choose from and buy by the yard. A good staplegun is all you need to redo it yourself.
There's also a bunch of how-tos online for putting a gel inset in your seat, if interested.
I use a triboseat cover that just goes over the existing seat cover. http://triboseat.com/
This is actually just super tough stuff similar to shelf lining at hardware/home depot. I use that stuff for the riders seat. Real cheap and works great. Also easily replaceable without modding seat.
Matt is right. I have covered a couple custom seats with fabric from, a-hem! Jo-Ann fabrics. You can pick from a pretty good selection of colors and CHEAP. So if you f- it up, you don't feel nearly as bad. But there is no replacement for a professional upholsterer. You can find gel insetrs on Flea-bay and most you can cut to custom dimensions. Consider memory foam too, easy to work with and relatively inexpensive, too.
