    929 steering damper?

    Hey guys,
I have an opportunity to buy a Scotts steering damper with mount kit. I am not sure I want to sink that much into the bike right now, but I'm headed to TTD this month. I have to buy SS brake lines and master for the front. Is the damper something I can do without for now? I'm still on the stock suspension on the 929.
Plus Pete is currently planning his retirement from working on my goldwing suspension!

FWIW, I've seen headshake once on my 929 and I'm also rolling on stock suspension.

    To each their own.

I don't think it's totally necessary, but that's just my opinion.

I never had an issue doing 22's with street tires on a track day with the 929 when I first started doing trackdays.

    Re: 929 steering damper?

I'm remembering a wicked Isle of Man vid of a guy on a 929 having the worst tank slapper I've ever seen. It spits him off into a stone wall. That vid alone would convince me to get a damper on that bike! Granted, I'm sure the Isle puts a bike through some extreme conditions...

You'll probably be fine for now.

I'm guessing you are going to buy the damper now?

Not sure I will be pushing quite as hard as the TT race. I've seen that video and it does look pretty ugly.

After a slapper, be sure to pump the front brakes to get the pistons back into position.

I saw a review of the 929 and it says they are rather twitchy...

    Re: 929 steering damper?

    Thanks guys.
I bought the Scotts damper and installed it this week.(just in time for the track on Monday) Now I am playing with getting it adjusted. They say start 8 clicks back from hard and ride it. I have already brought it in to 7. Of course, I was screwing with it while riding yesterday and tightened it up to see what it felt like and almost crashed at 10 mph playing arond weaving a bit as as I slowed!!
    Oh well, gotta learn right!

Any suggestions of settings that work for you would be appreciated.
