Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin launch | MCN
First ride: Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L review - Page 2 - Road Tests: First Rides - Visordown
DCT is getting a lot of praise.
This sort of thing worries me though.I WITHDRAW my reservations about Honda's DCT system on the new Africa Twin. ... With less attention occupied by gear selection, more was free to focus on other demands, like staying on the gas as the front and back wheels took different routes through deep sand.
Seems like a big bike to hustle around on the pavement with a 90/90-R21 front. But then maybe that's good. Hustling on pavement gets one in trouble these days.Once, on the twisty tarmac, the dual-sport Dunlop Trailmax tyres threatened to lose traction in a bend, at both the front and back I think.

I wish you tube would create a section called you boob. This video would fit right in. Love to see the back end step out and watch the rider act as if it was his first time ever experiencing a step out. I bet his story was "man I had that back tire really stepped out on me."

Wow, tough crowd. There are some really shitty videos from the press unveil. I didn't think this one was that bad.
You mean be a crotchety, sour, debbie downer unimpressed with absolutely everything?! I'm good thanks.
Whatever you say debbie.
It was clearly a "we have this bike for 22 minutes this afternoon, let's get as much B-roll as we can to use for future video reviews when we get a chance to actually ride it".
No riders talking about the bike. No audio of the bike. Not even any cool shots. It's just filler stuff. This is the type of segments in a bike review video that has a narrator talking about things over the clips.

It strikes me as a "We had this bike in an organized press event for 2 days, but only got a couple opportunities to get it in front of a camera. Quick, get something to youtube before anyone else to get our name in front of as many eyes as possible. EXCLUSIVE!!!"
I am disappointed there isn't more news yet. Press event was last weekend. Maybe it was a lot of print media that doesn't feel like giving it away to non-subscribers like me for free on the 'net. Or maybe everyone in NA realizes it doesn't matter since buyers can't do jack until the bike is actually available next spring anyway.
That rider makes me look like MM

Quite a few motorcycle news sites have posted their reviews. They're all good, and the DCT is receiving a lot of praise for how well it works offroad (including from people who admit upfront that if you'd told them last week they'd like it, they would have laughed at you).
That didn't make me decide to get a DCT model though. I'm putting down a deposit for a Dakar red manual transmission version. By the time it arrives in May or June, my 5-year-old Tiger will likely have 90,000 miles on it, and in its senior years will get to enjoy smoother street duty while the Africa Twin will be shod with knobbies and get dirty.

Why not wait and demo both models to see which one you'd like for the next 100k miles?

Wow! Can I ask how many times in 90k it's been dumped and how it fared? I think this Honda is kinda neat but I couldn't see myself really having fun off-road without the occasional dump, especially with the weight. Doesn't bother me in the least on an MX bike but it would suck to pay $$$ for one of these and scar it all up, even worse if shit broke.
So, it wheelies.
It definitely has one of those big dopey cans like the big ktm. There's probably some lame butterflies and servos and junk in there too.
I'm sure it's a lovely bike. It's a shame that earlier video from today had a complete goon of a rider in it.
I don't think I can effectively say fuck this thing just yet. But, I looked down right now, and I'm not sporting any wood either.

The more I see of this bike the more I realize that I'm going to end up trading my V-Strom for this.
