That's one form of civil disobedience I think a large majority of Americans could get behind.
Most of the speed cameras are installed by a non government entity, I wonder if the vandalism is repaired from the company funds or from tax payer money... if the vandalism doesn't even cost anything to us then all the better.

In the UK the cameras are run by the local police, who "naturally" get a cut of the revenue. Each camera costs about 20 grand to install. Some are targeted repeatedly til the cops give up on it and try somewhere else. MAD (motorists Against Detection) have been so successful that some counties have given up on them altogether and are using something call "The Talivan", basicly a van with cameras parked at the side of the road, these are vastly more costly as they need an officer in them to write the tickets,, If I find the "MAD" website I will post it up,, they have great photos of them destroying the cameras.

The SAS, the Parachute Regiment and the Police decide to go on a
survival weekend together to see who comes out on top. After some basic
exercises the trainer tells them that their next objective is to go down into
the woods and catch a rabbit for their supper, returning with it ready
to skin and cook.
Night falls.
First up - the SAS. They don infrared goggles, drop to the ground
and crawl into the woods in formation. Absolute silence for 5 minutes,
followed by the unmistakable muffled "phut-phut" of their trademark
silenced "double-tap". They emerge with a large rabbit shot cleanly
between the eyes. "Excellent!" remarks the trainer.
Next up - the Para's. They finish their cans of lager, smear
themselves with camouflage cream, fix bayonets and charge down into the woods,
screaming at the top of their lungs. For the next hour the woods
ring with the sound of rifle and machine-gun fire, hand grenades, mortar bombs
and blood curdling war cries. Eventually they emerge, carrying the
charred remains of a rabbit. "A bit messy, but you achieved the aim; well
done", says the trainer.
Lastly, in go the coppers, walking slowly, hands behind backs
whistling Dixon of Dock Green. For the next few hours, the silence is only
broken by the occasional crackle of a walkie-talkie "Sierra Lima Whisky Tango
Fanta One, suspect headed straight for you..." etc. After what seems an
eternity, they emerge escorting a squirrel in handcuffs. "What the hell
do you think you are doing?" asks the incredulous trainer, "Take this
squirrel back and get me a rabbit like I asked you five hours ago!".
So back they go. Minutes pass. Minutes turn to hours, night drags on
and turns to day. The next morning, the trainer and the other teams are
awakened by the police, holding the handcuffed squirrel, now covered
in bruises, one eye nearly shut.
"Are you taking the piss!!??" asks the now seriously irate trainer.
The police team leader nudges the squirrel, who squeaks:
"Alright, Alright, I'm a fucking rabbit"

I like the filling up with expanding foam idea myself, but its not as spectacular as the burning tire method. Hats off to them for destroying over 700 cameras a yr.
I believe many of them in the US (maybe not speed but red light cameras) are administered by a private company. Now if the contract includes any kind of cut tied to the amount of "enforcement", you can imagine how much incentive the management group has to ensure they are morrrreee than accurate. Like you stopped, but it still took your picture and mailed you a ticket just in case. I'm pretty sure that very thing was happening in Ohio.

City of San Diego and their contractor were caught shortening yellow light times, hence more tickets. Mayor didn't renew contract when it was all made public. So, per the original poster, yup its all about revenue!

got this reduced from $150 to $100...after paying $25 to appeal i saved a whole $25...don't really care about the ticket it's the points/insurance that i'll have to pay for multiple years now...also got pulled over the other day for going through an orange light by a town cop...luckily it was in a town where the company i work for provides engineering services to so he let me off with a warning...fml

Whats disgraceful is the fact that if you file for an appeal the court charges you to to do so, courts don't even bother to try to cover up what a corrupt institution it has become.

The chick at the burrito joint made a real mess of my burrito too. Fortunately it was tasty. Let's call it a pair of near misses.
Always appeal....I didn't get my last one overturned, but the delay between hearings stretched past the renewal date for my insurance, so I'm only going to deal with the points for 2 years instead of 3. Plus the judge knocked it down to $50. That was annoying in the sense that every ticket has a head injury surcharge of $50, so I basically just paid that.
Got nabbed for impeded operation the other day. What bullshit that was, apparently changing lanes wirhout a turn signal and almost hitting me didnt warrant getting oulled over. Cop said I was "distracted by something in my car" $35 ticket. Anyone know if this is surchargeable.
Drove back from NY yesterday, took 90 from NY to Auburn exit. Must have seen 4 mounties on the route, and those are the ones I saw. Two had people pulled and two were playing with their ray guns. I usually only see one trooper on that ride, if I see any at all. But did they pull over the Corolla holding up a line of 20+ cars??
