    Had "some dirt experience"

What does this mean? That you rode a 50 around your house or you raced 450 motocross?

My "dirt experience" came from having a clapped out KDX80 that I rode around my fathers house on weekends and in the summer when I was about 11. I would take it out in the back woods along the powerline trails and in the 3 acre field out in front of the house.

I "raced" for half a season because a friends kid broke some bones in a wreck and they figured I was the same height and build so no one would know it was me racing this kids bike.

    Re: Had "some dirt experience"

I think "some dirt experience" means, "i rode a dirtbike this one time it was way cool so i got a streetbike which i cant handle so i justify by by saying i rode a dirtbike once!!!!!"

I have years of dirt experience, but even that roughly translated to the street. the entire concept of dirt vs street has some similaritities, but in fact is entirely different.

Got my first dirt bike when I was 6. Rode progressively bigger bikes until I was about 12 or 13. Got out of the sport until out of college and started up again.

When I say I "raced" it was like 3 "races" and my best finish was a 3rd because 3 other guys crashed out. (there was only 6 of us "racing")

    Re: Had "some dirt experience"

Grew up riding dirtbikes with Matt and Bob Stone. So I've got 19 years of dirt-riding experience as I started when I was 10.

Took 8 years off however from 16-17 to 24. Raced downhill mountainbikes through college which is like a dirtbike with no motor. and dirtjumped, and stuff. Basically this: (these all my boys!)

Started riding motocross (on actual tracks) about 3 years ago, 2006, when I bought Jeff Wood's CR125 and started riding at his track.

Dirt riding helps immensely on a pavement motorcycle.

Quoted for truth, my msf instructors kept yelling at me because I was riding the rear break or keeping my foot on the pedal at least. "Stop riding the rear ya dirtbiker!!"

I wish I still had my old badass yamaha two smoker. Bitch was quick and would wheelie with just a crack of the throttle.

For me it means "I once pulled off the road onto some dirt to park" or "I ride a mountain bike"

We may know some of the same people. I used to wrench for the Independent Fabrications/Sids NYC DH guys (Lars, Del, etc). Great guys... Lars is pretty nasty on an MX'er too... pretty much anything with wheels as far as I could tell. Haven't seen those guys in years.

ahah hell yes! I know Lars and have spent many a day riding with him and the NJ gang. Know Evil Bikes? e13? Dave Weagle? I knew Dave before he started Evil and helped him put the Imperials together and subsequent items. He went on to design some bikes for IF.

    Re: Had "some dirt experience"

Ha!. Small planet. I didn't know you were into the DH stuff. I'm pretty sure I've met Dave once or twice but definitely don't know him personally.

I went on to do some stuff with Spooky before they went under and then hung out with Rob, Doc and the guys at Brooklyn Machine works (I used to LOVE those 4130 tanks they build. The Park Bike remains one of my all time favorite daily riders). Wish I had the time and extra cash to stay in it. One can only have so many expensive addictions.... I had to sell all my toys to get back into MX when I moved out of NYC.

Raced quads from 98 to 2000 made it to amature class, broke my leg in four places, got married, kids, sold the quad. Picked up motocross and raced for two more years. Too much money and time. A few hundred miles on the woods also.
